Did QOTSA sell out their arena shows in 2023? Because if they didn't, I feel like that's a level below what I'd expect as a minimum for a Reading headliner.

I say that, when I saw them on that run, it was a 2-3,000 capacity in Stockton. Was fairly straight forward to sell out, that one.

They didn't headline in 2021 why would they now. its not like they've made waves for a long while!

I like them a lot but like they are clearly not that level anymore.

Yup. they're clearly still a draw for a certain audience. That audience didn't make up enough of Reading's demographic when they were at their creative and popularity peak, it certainly doesn't in 2025.

YOu are correct, but that wasn't the debate lol.

Download would be absolutely stupid to go down that path again asking them to headline unless they really decide to take Download down a level from what it is. It's been 7 years since they did their biggest own outdoor show in London on one of the strongest support casts you'll probably see to run the show and it's unlikely to ever happen again and given in that time it hasn't happened again. They have wained significantly.

That's a fair and accurate assessment tbh.

Maybe if they're really feeling a need to charge more cash, Foo Fighters might bring them as a support act.

I was at that show. That was great fun.

I suspect they could do another show like that with the right supporting cast tbf but I think if you replace that show with Download and Victorious, is that really far removed from what their level was in 2017/18? Seemed to be similar sized shows when they were doing UK dates in autumn 2017.

They wouldn’t be stupid. They went down fine this year. Not amazingly, not terribly. Just fine. They would if they were to do so again in future. In Download’s world of ever decreasing headliner pools, they’d do well to keep a band like QOTSA in their back pocket to pull out if they need an established headliner on the smaller side to go alongside some other heavy hitters.

I know its off-topic given we're talking Download in a Reading thread but I thought QOTSA last year was a great choice for broadening the bill-topping pool. It would need a strong supporting line-up though, I think. But I do wonder if there's a self-defeating militantism given that the old generation of metal acts that had certain styles and have been reliable Download headliners for years aren't gonna be around forever.

It probably didn't help that last year's Download was a bit messy with the weather, the widespread food poisoning, Barclaycard arguments, late drop-outs and goodness knows what else.

I thought QOTSA smashed it at DL. Proper good set. They were never going to be the flashiest headliner because they’ve never been that band. They just turn up, play their bangers expertly and that’s it. They had a good crowd. Again, not the biggest, not the smallest, but a perfectly respectable headliner crowd. They’re a perfectly acceptable, if not hugely exciting, headline booking.

same here, I remember looking at the weather forecast just before their set started and expected a storm in the middle of their show, which made me appreciate their performance a lot more and thankfully the storm never occurred, albeit that day

Central Cee has announced an arena tour with plenty of space for extra dates to be added. I suspect he will headline 2026.

I’ve just been listening to his album and I completely struggle to see how anyone can get excited by his music. His flow and cadence are almost identical on every track. It’s so dull.

I’m a fan of plenty of UK hip hop but he leaves me so cold. I do not get it at all.

That 2023 sub set absolutely blew my mind. Turned up late, had his MC do half the set on decks before he came out and then he looked completely uninterested when he did turn up. And yet the kids ate it up, hats off to him.

Everything about him is dull. Music, ‘clothing’ brand, that lazy Air Max 95 collab. 🙃

Lola Young has almost as many listeners as Olivia Rodrigo on Spotify already. Can’t see her playing under the Lathums in the bigish tent at this point.

Kind of name they desperately need to secure though, for a late afternoon main stage slot

Where has Lola Young come from? I deleted tiktok a while back - but like she's completely passed me by.

I guess I don't listen to like capital fm but just not sure how to keep up!

Mind you I think a mate did mention her a few days ago - but that was the first time i'd ever heard of her.

I first came across her on some Spotify playlist a year or so back, she wasn’t big then. (Although it turns out my sister sent me a vid of her watching her at Lattitude 3-4 years ago saying she was amazing but I’d long forgotten)

Again next time I hear her she has 35 million Spotify listeners!

There’s the potential she could pull a Billie Eilish type crowd by August

Bilmuri are 100% mainstage, likely midday.
Especially after that Sleep Token support slot they've gained a much bigger following.
