Yeah, but I f**king loved Pangea.  I reckon it had loads of potential for evolution too had the planning not scuppered it.

I was a bit sceptical at the time but when you look back it now it was insane and could have been absolutely amazing.  Some of the pictures from that year are amazing

It was bloody fabulous and had so much potential. I can't imagine the dragonfly will have the same wow factor but we'll see.

The potential was probably better than the finished product. Then again we didn't actually get to see the intended concept due to the wind etc.

Looking back it was mental and it was definitely a welcome change from the spider.

Just had a scan back via the time machine.  That crane was f**king huge!

Looks like the Dragonfly is noticeably shorter than the spider, and set back a lot further from the centre of the field too.  Maybe suggesting it's more of a "stage" than a 360 degree experience?

Spider was never really painted? I think it should be fine, fits with their design ethos imo. Sure it will still be stellar at night.

I assumed the spider legs would become the dragon fly legs but i guess not.

I think they’ll be using the spider elsewhere rather than binning it entirely

Problem with the crane is that it was just that… a crane, that we see in every day life, whereas the spider and hopefully dragonfly are huge spectacles that we only see at Glastonbury. There was definitely potential there and I don’t think I appreciated how impressive it actually was at the time, but it was hard to not feel like it was a bit unimaginative after a huge fire shooting spider. The wind definitely didn’t help matters as the whole moon wrecking ball thing didn’t really get to shine properly.

Fair enough. To me the fact it was a recognisable thing like a crane was what made it so cool. Not often you see a fire breathing crane with Charlotte De Vitte in it bang own techno while the boom flies overhead.

I think in hindsight it was actually incredibly impressive and like said above, some of the pictures from that year and the way it looked at night are nuts (and it sounded ace too).. but at the time it felt like a bit of a downgrade and unfortunately we never got to see the next evolution of it.

I did a recreation during covid .... I loved it , and so much more to come .  was the first year of a project and obviously the moon didnt work , but they have sorted that in future versions

I can't see your vid (unresolved gold issue!) but the moon did work.   We were at Arcadia when it went round on the arm, steadied by people on the ground with ropes attached to the moon.  Arcadia crowds and the people holding ropes looked challenging though!

Only whinging because we’d seen it all before. Just don’t think people factored in that the replacement might be worse rather than better, or at least not as instantly visually impressive.

people also forgot that the spider has evolved over decades.

The OG spider was cool but it was nothing compared to peak spider a few years ago.

Pangea looked a bit uninspired as a structure compared to the spider when just passively sat there during the day, but in full flow when it was up and running it looked epic.  The view from above the park looked fantastic and you really got to see the scale of it.

Arcadia could do their own field. Afterburner, spider and dragonfly. Glastonbury 2028 maybe!

The should get a tent and bring back The Reactor.

Proper quality that was.

I reckon the dragonfly will gain some height as its constructed, seems quite low now.

It looks like they’re focusing the crowd to the front too, which I imagine should help address the sound complaints
