Pop-Punk + Emo at Glastonbury

Il start a new thread before I de-rail the other one.

Looking over previous festival line ups this seems to be a little bit excluded music genre wise.

I managed to find Hoobastank & Panic At The Disco on the 2008 line up  & Jimmy eat world on the 2009

Other than that not a lot on the big or little stages!!!

Why do we think?

I'd love to see a mid afternoon double pop punk slot on Woodsies in the afternoon maybe Taking back sunday followed by Alkaline Trio (for example)

What do we think?

First off, did Hoobastank really play Glastonbury?! And in 2008 no less, way after their one big hit?!

And I’ve talked about this before on here and I think it mainly boils down to both Reading/Leeds and Download (and now also Slam Dunk) having the monopoly over pop/punk kind of acts so there was never any need for Glastonbury to also cater towards that kind of crowd. I’m sure a discussion was made at some point in the 00’s when that kind of stuff was really taking off and they just decided against it lest the lineups look identical to Reading/Leeds.

I honestly forgot Hoobastank existed and I will probably easily forget again..

But time has moved on not sure Reading and Leeds are that anymore and Slamdunk is a single genre fest.

I still think there is room in modern Glastonbury for a couple of them every year. I'm sure there is a big interest crossover with fans of some of the modern British / Irish punk that was on woodsies & leftfield this year.

Doesn't seem to be on the festivals radar at all tbh.

Glastonbury has it's finger on the pulse with pop, electronic and indie music. A lot of what they've booked over the past twenty years has been downstream of Radio 1, NME, 6Music etc.

Can't imagine a band like Creeper would pull a crowd at all. The only pop punk I could imagine them booking is maybe Green Day at a pinch - and even that would be embarrassing.

I don't know though. It's all cyclical though, isn't it? So Green Day, Blink, Avril, Sum 41 coming to an end, while they are of a genre they are very much millennial nostalgia. At the Blink shows in October I felt practically old and I was 14 when Enema Of the State came out. A lot of pop punk back in its day was considered "embarrassing" and people would rip it out of you for wearing a Reel Big Fish hoodie or being a "wannabe". Now bands like Busted and McFly are being lumped in with these bands which I find utterly wild, but a lot of younger people see it the same way as I would view The Smiths or The Cure, New Order etc.

Turnstile played in '22, not really in either of these genres but definitely part of that scene.

I would welcome some more though. The demographic of the fest being more middle aged would lend itself to some of these older bands going down well.

Given the festival's adoption of metal or punk being pretty slow though I wouldn't be getting my hopes up on their often maligned sub-genres getting much of a look in.

Bring Me are 1. metalcore and 2.  f**king massive.

Bring Me, Deftones, Babymetal, Deafheaven and a few other heavier bands have crossover appeal. I agree pop punk is millennial nostalgia now, but a lot of pop punk/ emo (Creeper, Neck Deep, Waterparks) and metalcore bands (Architects, Spiritbox and Sleep Token) I just can't imagine grabbing a crowd. Would be a laugh though (except Sleep Token - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
