It's a slightly different type of thing, but Carlsberg do have Angelo Poretti, which I quite like and they took to Wilderness Festival last time I was there. No reason they couldn't offer it at Glastonbury.

porettis very Glastonbudget!

would be funny though

Sounds like Solstice Bar.

Not great on Glasto bar names but it was basically where the Spaceport used to be.

On the Estrella, Poretti shouts; forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't Poretti actually imported rather than brewed here under licence? Which must rule it out of contention.

Would 100% take Estrella.

It would likely rule it out of being the ubiquitous lager.

It shouldn't rule it out of being an option at one or two specialist places, which is where this conversation started.

I've never been, so I don't know what they have there.

But on face value, it would be a substantially better premium option than we currently have on site.

They had ice cold cans of the Arbor non alcoholic beer at the bar in Unfairground a couple of years ago, but not last year - they also had Lucky Saint here and there, which is great if its chilled. The staff bar at Arcadia (this might not be any good to you, apologies if its not!) had a very decent german alkoholfrei weissbier, cant remember who made it but that was well worth hunting out when i was over that way. I love a beer, i just dont like getting drunk so having a good old mix up of what i drink is what i do. Good on you for going sober, you'll remember so much more of it, and can do so much more during the day!

I also strongly recommend something really sugary for late on, a big cake or a fruit smoothie post-headliner if you want to go and do some late night things - you wont have booze as a painkiller for your knackered feet but sugar works wonders in that position. Plus here is an excuse to eat late night cake, if you want one 😁

Lucky Saint seem to be cornering the festival AF market. (Beyond your Becks Blue, Heineken for offerings) Luckily it's one I like. Not my favourite, but a good solid choice. Seen it at a few places now, including on tap at Bearded Theory a couple of years ago. Don't know if it was there last year

I believe Poretti is now made in Wolverhampton at the old Banks Brewery site, and Estrella is made in Bedford at the old Eagle Brewery site. At least both of those were originally made in Italy and Spain.

Unlike my personal fave Madri, which has never been near Spain and is brewed in the old John Smith's Brewery at Tadcaster.

But we certainly won't be getting Madri as yet again it is a Heineken product and not CMBC

In terms of site changes, I would be very happy if they ditched CMBC and got Heineken on board.

While we're talking booze, other than the cider bus, does anywhere do a proper decent still cider?

Doesn't the Cockmill Inn carry a couple of proper ciders too? I seem to remember it used to at any rate.

Just gotta love that phrase, London bar prices!

Wonder if this is a new phrase or the site just hasn't been updated.

Pints were £6.50 last year which is basically Manchester city centre prices now. Swear some London places are up to £8 now.

Unless we see a switch to Heineken as PB it won't be Neck Oil. Carlsberg are possibly the worst big brewery for that type of thing, Heineken have Beavertown, Lagunitas and others, even Molson Coors have Salt Beer in their distribution portfolio... (Wouldn't that be nice!)

I think Brooklyn was the best Carlsberg could offer last year. We were looking for a new PB ourselves last year, we found that Carlsberg are (or were) very good for continental beers, not so good for American or craft style beers.

(To be fair, I'm not currently as up to date with any recent micro acquisitions or distribution deals they've made as I was last year, because we're not looking for a new PB ourselves anymore.)

I've think I've mentioned on eFests that I work for a brewery (one you've mentioned) but genuinely interesting to know there are people on the other side of things who will be a lot less biased than me.

For a festival I think Carlsberg will end up as supplier more times than not purely as they're the cheapest. Festivals have a captive audience so to a certain point can sell what they want.

I am in the game as well and having real product issues with CMBC. The product line-up is so uninspiring. However for a table beer the Hobgoblin Session IPA is rather pleasant. Not sure if they had that G2023 because I wasn't there, but would be a welcome addition.

Personally I am not a fan of the Brooklyn and would much rather have Estrella.

I come up against CMBC a lot in my role and I always think the same, it's not the best lineup but they have a decent lineup of world/premium.

I love Estrella, think it's one of the best lagers in the UK but for some reason don't see it too much in the UK (probably price as it isn't owned by one of the main 3)

I can't share the figures here as it's work related but it's genuinely amazing how that has become a top 3 lager in Wales (top 5 in the UK) already. Lovely beer.

I would definitely dispute the second Madri point though.. I work for one of the 3 breweries mentioned above and Madri is 100% not a Heineken product. Unfortunately also not CMBC so no chance at  Glastonbury 😞

Train station pubs in London tend to be hovering around the £7.50 mark for Peroni etc

Yep My Bad, apologies. I did actually know it was a MC product but I was focussing on Heineken for some reason. As you say hopefully zero chance of MC products at G otherwise we could end up with Carling

Very aware reading that back it has become very obvious who I work for 😄 Would LOVE for our brands to be at the festival (and more importantly beg for free tickets).

Would be incredible to get Salt on tap at Glastonbury!!! Even if it were just Jute.

Madri is not as nice (or genuine) as Cruz Campo though... Marketing genius, and obviously responsible for bringing us Cruz in the first place. But Cruz is nicer imo.

We very nearly went with Coors. Heineken and Coors both produced a great lineup for our bar, Coors probably even more so as it had Salt Jute instead of Neck Oil (personal preference there haha.) But as we're an FOT site, Heineken's package of sweetening extras was much better. Free stock, help with the garden refurb, and a complete cellar refurb and reinstall, so we couldn't turn them down.

On the free ticket point, I've had free tickets to Bestival through Thatcher's before, just because we were one of their free of tie sites. 🙂

Madri's success forced Heineken to push their newly acquired Cruz Campo to the UK market as a rival. A genuine top seller in Spain that I personally think is much nicer than Madri. It's now overtaken Birra Moretti as our top selling lager!

It's amazing what sticking a pixelated image of a bearded hipster on the pump can do for sales!

Any idea why? Or what the point is? Some sort of random venue or just another arty installation?

No clue as yet …. Would make a great venue in my opinion … there were some steps lying about . Not sure it would be safe for punters to be climbing though but maybe / hopefully some kind of stage
