I don't think she's trying to branch out her audience to the hardcore Nashville crowd; this is just another way to get normies on board, and she knows that the American music press tastemakers will eat it up and promote whatever narrative she puts out (look at how they all fell in line on Renaissance).
And covering Jolene and Blackbird says a lot about the lack of genuine artistic chops in my book.
I was skeptical, and not particularly looking forward to it, but after listening to his stuff, and putting it through the "drunk in a field at Glastonbury" filter, I've come to the conclusion it could potentially be ace! 馃槄
