lazyred
2 hours ago, Neil said: its pretty standard to claim you've lived in a second house to avoid the tax, so she probably lied to save herself the tax money, and possibly because she'd been taking rent money and is worried hmrc might dig deeper and spot what she hadn't declared. Yes but the funny thing in this case is that she didn't need to live apart from her family to avoid the tax. This post from Feb quoted earlier is about the tax rules. https://taxpolicy.org.uk/2024/02/29/rayner/ If she is telling the truth or lied she may still have owed tax. A married couple with multiple houses can nominate one as the main residence regardless of where they mainly live. If you don't nominate an assumption is made. The deliberate tax avoiders know the rules and flip their houses. It all looks like a mistake she could have cleared up weeks ago and the attempted cover up made things worse. She can just say she didn't do anything wrong and the daily c**t or whatever they're called can continue to lose their sh*t because they can't stand her...gobby working class northern woman with a troubled up bringing who is breaking the mould and set to become one of the most important people in the country and they seem to think is vulnerable in their sh*tty little misogynist snobby world...but even if she does publish and ends up owing a few thousand let's dig further into Ashdown's and other Tory/Mail cronies and see what they've been up to the rich shitbags. Long Live Angela Rayner. There is an element of classism to it from the Tories, they would expect us all to move on if/when it was one of them. Adam Boulton said it on the LBC that it seems personalised against Angela Rayner.

Neil
didn't a tory recently get forced to pay some tax they'd avoided, not surprising they'd want to get someone back. if going for tax avoiders becomes the thing tories are gonna lose.

Do you think Raynor needs to say or do anything or is it that you think she should just be left alone and has done nothing wrong?

Not having a go at you - just pointing out to other readers the general difference in 'rules' there is on here depending on if the comment is pro or anti Labour. Nobody Interesting
I recall last time there was legal advice given and the government refused to publish it that situation really did not turn out very well.......... yet here we are again. "If the legal advice finds Israel has broken international law, then the government would be obliged to suspend arms exports - something the SNP, Lib Dems, and Plaid Cymru are calling for. But speaking to Sky's Kay Burley, the work and pensions secretary said it's a "very longstanding convention" that the advice is not published. "As under governments of all political stripes and colours, that advice will not be made public," Mel Stride stated. Kay puts to him that the government published a summary of the legal advice following strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen earlier this year, but the cabinet minister said they are "two different situations". One case, he said, is around the export of arms, while the other was direct military action by the UK government, which is a "very different situation"." Nobody Interesting
Still an IF, but if Lammy is found to have breached the rules then Starmer has not choice but to get rid or be a total hypocrite based on his response to ReeSmogg etc when they were found to have breached the rules. 51 complaints made and an investigation started........................... with this and the Raynor thing are the 'right' now trying to oust anything left of centre that remains in Labour as they are resigned to a Labour government? A radio show hosted by shadow foreign secretary David Lammy is being investigated by Ofcom after it received more than 50 complaints. The broadcasting watchdog said it was looking into whether the programme that aired on LBC on Good Friday "broke our rules on politicians acting as news presenters". The Labour frontbencher has hosted a Sunday morning show on the station since 2022 after a number of appearances covering for other presenters, and regularly stands in on Bank Holidays. Not convienced that's a sacking matter. What do they expect if they ask a politican to host a radio show.

steviewevie
Heard a few commentators over weekend saying local elections could be real bad for Tories, but maybe not catastrophic. Reform not standing candidates in lots of places, and many Labour councilors quitting or facing defeat because of Gaza. Also, Lib Dems and Greens traditionally do well in local elections, which I guess could hurt both Labour and Tory.
