Camping space from Friday

Last year was my first year arriving on a Thursday. We booked through the coach sale, so out of our control really. We arrived at around 5pm Thursday evening, and as we started to walk through the fields the stewards told us everywhere was full.

We ended up camping next to gate A. By the evening they had made the camping area bigger, with some people camping right next to the toilets.

Were the other fields full, or were the stewards just being told to say that?

There were plenty of campers coming in all evening, they must have been setting up somewhere. There seemed a lot more space allocated to staff/hospitality, especially near gate A.

Got there on Wednesday last year and camped in Dairy Ground. By Thursday it felt like there was very little space anywhere near us or in Paines where some friends were, fuller than I remember it being when I'd arrived on Thursday in previous years.

I think there were still probably isolated spaces but the closer you got to the centre of the site, the less likely you were to find space. So don't think the stewards were lying - they were probably doing their best to save people walking for ages with loads of bags and not finding anywhere to camp.

they tried to make me set up my tent in a mud puddle one year, 2016. i said yeah mate. walked into the field a bit and found loads of little spaces. they are just there to sort out the masses. if you use your own noggin youll be fine. just have a small tent.

Worth having a look at some of the high res images posted on other threads you can figure out space from those

The campsites heading towards Sticklinch tend to be a bit more quieter.

I’d second this South Park one and two always have space but you are a distance from anything

We managed to find a small, slopey space for a 2 person tent at around 11.30am on Friday in Lime Kiln. We probably could have found some space in a 'full' campsite if we'd have been arsed but we just wanted a quick turnaround really.

Cutting off pylon ground from bus travellers is the stupidest decision I think they have ever made. Encourage people to travel by coach and then block off the largest accessible campsite is crazy. Still, loads of room for vip campers around John peel tent.

(yes, I didn’t get a ticket but last year was a piss take for coach arrivals on the Thursday.)

It was a bit annoying how they cut off the path to Wicket Ground too, making families walk the long way round Woodsies.
