But this is the point, right? You won't get Metalica closing after Olivia or Muse after Sam, right? It's gonna be weak.

Anyway, unless you're highly acclaimed like Billie or Frank Ocean, I think that to be a headliner with 2 albums out is a weak, forced-hands choice. No matter how many concerts she sold this year in Belgium, RW is heading exactly where Coachella was heading. It will take another year or two, but they will start feeling their popy choices in tickets sales. Hate to say but everywhere is headlining there, Glastonbury well on their way too and Glastonbury doesn't need to either, it's sell out whatever. They've just got to join the parade. Haha yes I would take Dua Lipa now over Muse....10-15 years ago a different story maybe. The mast time I saw Muse was 2016 and I left to Underworld at the start of Madness and not regretted it once. Didn't want them to headline Glastonbury and theg were well past their point with 2010 being so much better and even by then the peak was gone. Pink has headlined 3-4 times hasn’t she? Dua Lipa headlined last year. They’ve been very vocal about wanting Billie Eilish too. It’s one of those too with being able to book who is around, as has been said before even the likes of Glastonbury have struggled to book those massive acts anymore and acts just want to do their own thing. Yeah but that's kind of my point. They have their thing, and it's great for those who like it. I think the biggest point you make their is that they can only book acts who are available, which I think people across efests on all forums forget sometimes. There was a great point made this morning that it is a bit ominous for the 50th Anniversary if they've started their announcements with Green Day, Sam Fender and Olivia Rodrigo but it also needs to be said that if these are the biggest artists around next year then they've done well to secure them all. I think an issue Werchter has is that anyone who has been knows it's literally all about the music. Outside of the main stages there is very little else do, so when they drip feed names it gives other places time to snap up ticket sales from other places.

Honestly, I would rather watch someone who’s on top of their form right now than bands that used to be good and are quite boring nowadays (like RHCP or Arctics from the 2023 lineup). Festivals have to push these new artists as Metallica won’t be here forever…

Olivia, Dua.. they sell. They're on top of their game. But it doesn't say anything about them ad performers. Don't know about Olivia, but Dua is even a classic meme. Saw her glasto set. She can't perform for the life of her. And while their 2018 set was a mess, I think that AMs 23 set was legendary.

Obviously all allowed opinions but Arctics most recently were very dull apart from two of their songs that they didn't just try and sign in TBH&C format. Only reason I caught them in 23 and they've past their best nearly 10 years.

This is about performing abilities. You can't expect a 22 years old who's been touring for 2 years to have the same experience as headliners material. The bar is too low in the inportant parameters. That's what I'm saying

gingerevans84
Ah I love a good discussion about a pop star at Werchter. But only that, but a new festival headliner pop star!! Cry me a river if she's 'not big enough' or 'BUT ITS NOT POP WERCHTER' Was the same rubbish last year when Dua was announced.
