charlierc
Gary Lineker: BBC Match of the Day host to leave at end of season - BBC News So according to the BBC themselves, Lineker would leave Match of the Day's usual highlights show at the end of the season but stay on as an FA Cup presenter for 25/26 and the 2026 World Cup, then leave. For all that I know a few will bring his outspoken politics into this, by the end of that World Cup he'll be 65 having been a BBC broadcaster for nearly 30 years. If there's a mutual agreement now is the time for retirement, think he's earned it tbh.

Really like the fella … got his autograph once when he played cricket for Somerset as a guest … or maybe he was against them … anyway sad times I hope he wasn’t driven out because of his left leaning politics appears not but who knows with a board stacked with tories . Anyway he can voice stuff freely now without the dickheads attaching his job to bbc
pink_triangle
I put it in the general news thread, while I think Lineker is good at his job, I think his salary is too high considering it is a public broadcaster. Nobody stops watching big football matches because of a change of presenter. I personally think ITV coverage is now better than bbc.

Don’t think there’s a presenter that’s anything like as good as him … loads of dross about . Match of the day will lose viewers in my opinion … will see how it pans out … bbc is losing quality generally … few sport programmes , natural history and Glastonbury are the things they still do well . But having gibb and co on the board losing quality and impartiality is just what they want so they can run it into the ground

I mean, the bigger issue is surely that Sky have the rights to put up 3-5 minute clips of each PL game within minutes of the game finishing. That's how I watch Premier League highlights, anyway. Although paradoxically I actually prefer highlight shows for FA Cup and EFL, and the new Champions League highlights show is also a great addition. If people don’t like the presenters they fast forward through. If England have a big knockout game in an international tournament then nobody stops watching because of the presenter. I feel the BBC production has got a bit stale which is why I prefer ITV in recent years. Can’t even remember who the ITV presenter is, so it’s obviously not putting me off. Mark Pougatch was their main host during the Euros. Likely it'll be Chapman given the BBC seems to like using Gabby Logan elsewhere, although Alex Scott might be a shout? She was good as a host of Euros highlights shows I caught last summer.

Presenters and pundits are a bit of a waste of time. We can all see it's bad defending or woeful finishing. Do we need an ex pro, to tell us. I think Klopp went past Mourinho's level in how much he found to complain about. And he did this while barely winning trophies and somehow getting massive accolades. The only league he won had changing rules and timetables.

With how liverpool are doing now, he perhaps wasn't even that successful. Apart from the winner at fist bumping.
Gnomicide Posted yesterday at 04:57 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 04:57 PM Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup (x2), Super Cup, Club World Cup, barely anything. All this while competing against a ridiculously good Man City side. What a ride it was, I wouldn't change a thing (apart from seeing the back of Club 115). Tbf it was basically theirs by the time covid got involved and I don't think in February 2020 we were expecting March to be such a colossal shitshow. And I agree that Klopp did gain a reputation by the end of being too much of a whiner. But I guess it's still going to be a sh*t look for the PGMOL given how many people think all referees hate them and this has just opened the floodgates for it. I think if he misses it would be pulled back with some kind of sanction for Leon Bailey and given Nunez's profligacy it wasn't that out of the realms of possibility. Certainly, it's not as bad as other messes there's been. Edited yesterday at 05:12 PM by charlierc

If he'd thought it was a foul, he would (or should) have booked Bailey after the goal.

Im a Liverpool fan but dont want replays but I also dont want shite refereeing that spoils the games ?

That was 12 years ago, when cups were a bit more relevant than they are now.

Didn't hear many complaints from Liverpool fans, in relation to the ghost goal against Chelsea a few years back. It's got zilch to do with refereeing standards, more that you are a victim from it. Liverpool v City champions league final 1-1. 95th minute and Liverpool get a soft penalty, are Liverpool fans complaining? Of course not, it's to your advantage. It's like for years the likes City and Newcastle fans moaning about chelsea's billions. Now they are loving it. Even down the pyramid, are Wrexham fans moaning about having a chance.of the championship because of the owners. Football fans are only interested when ot goes against then
