It's kinda of a weird throwback tbf that this tournament still has two legged semi finals. I think it also used to have a two legged final and two legs in the early rounds, and I also seem to recall it was single leg semis during covid, but it is still a little bit of a curious outlier.

ย

But yeah, I think the second leg would've been in one of the weeks of the Champions League's new extra group stage games, and as Arsenal are in that, the game has to be arranged around that commitment.

QFs had them as 2-legs for quite a while, I think that was only ditched pretty recently.

ย

I really like 2-legged football, particularly in later knockout stages.

At least the update is that Bentancur is conscious after the unsettling looking sight that was requiring nearly ten minutes of on-pitch treatment.

Only seen a 15-second clip but he didnโ€™t look well before the corner was taken. Did they not stop playing straight away either?

Alisson made a save and the ball was kicked behind for a corner. It was at that point that the ref and a Spurs team-mate made them aware of what happened, at which point the game stopped for ten minutes.

ย

Bentancur himself has put a message online saying he's ok, so that's a start.

Everton sacking Sean Dyche less than 4 hours before tonight's FA Cup tie with Peterborough is one way to aggressively make the point that you no longer want him around.

Didn't see that one coming - they had some half decent results against good teams recently. Moyes return?

To many draws and only 3 wins all season (Palace, wolves, ipswich).

ย

I thought they had been doing OK to be honest, expected them to be in bottom 3 around Christmas. That being said all the draws, leaves them 1 point from safety.ย

Moves taking them down is the absolute dream scenario. I think they'll be ok though, but recalling a manager that won nothing with them and claiming he was successful is very funny.

Iโ€™m not convinced you can use winning something as a definition of success , considering there are only 4 or 5 clubs who win anything. I would also not consider Roberto Di Matteo at Chelsea more successful than David Moyes at Chelsea.

Totally agree, unfair on moyes that. When you think Everton have had one glorious period in 60 years, other than that 1 fa cup win in 95.ย

ย

So many managers you would say were successful without winning a trophy. Last 7 seasons of his reign they were not out of the top 8, that's fantastic consistency.ย

Well, an out-of-sorts Plymouth who hadn't won since Bonfire Night beating Brentford at their place is a decent upset. And one to hang onto given most ties seemed to go the way of the higher tier side, although Morecambe winning at Chelsea or Salford beating Man City were likely long shots.

ย

My natural pessimism means I'll be happy Newcastle have beaten Bromley when/if the job is done.

If Everton had won a trophy, it unquestionably would've elevated the reputation of Moyes' time at Everton, but yeah - given they were comparatively low budget in the PL for most of his tenure, their run for most of his reign to be consistent top 6 or at least top 8 finishers was excellent. I wonder if its slept on a little simply by virture of it not yielding the big win.

ย

Maybe if they'd stuck the landing after taking the lead inside the first minute against Chelsea in the 2009 FA Cup Final.

Only way to find out is if Moyes joins Chelsea tbf. Which would be a left field pick even by their increasingly weird left field picks.

Tamworth have doubled their ticket price for today's match and changed sponsors to The Sun. Hopefully Spurs batter them.

Nearly an hour played, still 0-0.

ย

Could still end up a battering but for all this is quite a strong Spurs side, they've not exactly grasped the bull by the horns like Man City did against Salford yesterday, for example.

ย

I agree that double the ticket price is a bit mean.

I think those criticising Tamworth are a little naive in terms of how difficult it is to make money when you are a lower league/non league with small attendances. If we are talking about mean I would put more blame on the greedy EPL teams who have stolen a well earned replay from them.

Even moreso in this case tbf as Tamworth would've taken Spurs to a replay under the old system. I know there's a degree of it being a game of chance, but they still would've earned a decent windfall had we still used the replay system, even if it is fair to note the expansion of the Europa League means Spurs wouldn't have had a free midweek to play it before the date of Round 4.

Getting this in quickly - job done for Newcastle. Genuinely thought we might be on track to f**k it up after Bromley scored first and missed a great chance for 2-0, but came back strong and got the job done. Lovely goals by Miley and Osula too.

ย

Did see Arsenal v Man Utd was eventful. Arsenal's attack was about as convincing as it was against Newcastle in the week, Bayindir made a great save from the penalty and it seems like this might be an excuse for "ARSENAL NEED A STRIKER OR THEY'RE IN CRISIS" articles.

ย Just need a way to score more goals against those outside the top 6.ย

Guess your home game against Southampton on Thursday and a potentially sticky game against Brighton on Sunday will both provide an opportunity to see if that can be done.
