Orange vs Pink Car Parks

Anything you can do to increase chances of getting into Orange rather than Pink or is it pure luck?

Total luck.  Orange is also used a lot for Accessible parking and for staff who need to come on site daily.  

Pack and prepared for Pink 57 - anything nearer is a bonus!

This is my plan but was going to head for blue as last time I was very close to Gate B arriving Tuesday night. Maybe just lucky. Might just come on here and see where they are sending people around gate A and B on Tuesday when they open.

I think this is the only answer. It used to be that if you came from the Pilton village direction they would put you in Orange because left turns are easier but this has definitely not been the case the last few festivals.

Is it also pot luck for campervans or do they fill up in order of people turning up?

Pot luck unfortunately. We arrived 4am Wednesday last year - sent to the very back of pink. Our mate arrived an hour later, straight in to orange.

Always parked up ok in Orange on tuesday but I was shocked by how full it was when we arrived around midnight on Tuesday last year. I think we were the last 2 or 3 cars to get in, and then they didn't know where to put us and we ended up being directed around to a small empty-ish field next to the AA compound/hospitality entrance (which was super easy for getting out on monday) ...so we didn't actually park in orange I guess - it was brown!

Car parks get filled and hoc by parking stewards so very difficult to predict. I go in the same way every year and end up in completely different parking every year.

There is an order that they fill the campervan fields. It was posted last year I think

I need to park in east car parks to ensure I pitch next to a camper van in east camper van site. Which is the best route to get to that side from the North? Think it is purple and blue routes?

I only include the info below, in case anybody else had gone down a time / geolocational rabbit hole, and would 'therefore' find it necessary information to posses;

 

And now (back in the room), We had to go out of the festival that morning because we had, somehow, managed to get through all the alcohol that we had brought for the whole event. We must have had a load nicked. Mustn't we!? In anycase, we got to one of the gates, met another mate who dosed us up with acid. We went to Shepton Mallet for more booze, just about got back on site just as I began to think that I was driving an old fashioned open at the rear double decker bus. So we parked up and scurried back into the festival.

 

At the end of the festival we went to where the car should have been, only it wasn't there. We had gone back to the original place that we had parked on the Wednesday night ie. not the place where we parked on the Thursday late morning.

 

We realised this. we went up to a steward, gave him the details and he said something along the lines of 'What time, roughly would you say that you came in on Thursday late morning. We gave him a small band time, and he responded with 'It's over there mate', and then gave even more specifics. And guess what? It f**king was as well. What are the chances of asking a steward and getting a time framed car locational, vehicle logistics 'Master' (AKA, genius) on your hands at that point in time?

Appreciate it's random but would we still have a chance of getting into Orange if we arrive about 4pm on wednesday afternoon or will it definitely be full by then?

Very little chance in my experience. Whenever i've arrived around that time on the Wednesday i've been in Pink every time.

We can't do that sadly. We're coming from London and in previous years have entered the festival from the east (with mixed success). Some of our friends came from the west last year and did get in a lot earlier in that mid morning peak (around 9-10am) - is that the consensus on here too, even if you end up in pink?

I nearly always come down Tuesday night and when I have, I've been directed to Orange/Brown. The only time I've ended up in Pink was when I arrived Wednesday afternoon. 

 

Other people's experiences may be different, but from my own, yeah... Wednesday at that time will see you directed to Pink.

Depending on when you arrive it may be easier to go Blue route. The last few years we've pitched our camper early afternoon on the Tuesday and friends have joined us Tuesday evening once the car parks are open to pitch their tents around us.

If you drive in through Blue route on Tuesday evening and you arrange it with the people you are camping by, you can stop your car right by the entrance to the campervan fields, near the AA compound, rather than lugging everything from the car park which could end up being Purple 2 on this map as happened to some friends the year before.

Your friends in the campervan will need to meet you by the gate if you're early, as they don't let people into the campervan fields from the car parks unless there's someone inside to vouch for you.

They fill up in order but in a horseshoe - was about as far away as you could get turning up Tuesday at 1pm last year. Others later will have been closer on the turn round the corner!
