I walked past headline set at the West Holts in 2023 halfway through and it was 1/3rd full at best, feel like he's lost popularity since then too. Such a strange choice! I'm puzzled by this as well. Although I would be very excited to see him perform, I struggle to understand how he's a headliner on the Other Stage. tomf3
As I think someone else mentioned, he did headline (and curate) a sold out APE last year. Previous recent headliners of that include Stormzy, The Strokes and Jungle, all of whom could headline the other stage so I don't think it's totally unreasonable. That said, he might be better off going the Little Simz route and doing an afternoon slot on the pyramid which would probably get him more exposure. Even still, that APE date had the likes of Nas and Andre 3000 who are undoubtedly bigger artists too, which confused me at the time. I reckon it'll be insanely quiet if he does get the top spot on the other, really strange booking.

I could be wrong but if The 1975 are headlining the Pyramid Stage and Loyle Carner is headlining the Other Stage on Friday night, other areas may experience overcrowding, as I don't think either act will appeal too much beyond their existing fan base. To be fair I think 1975 will get a reasonable crowd but agree that I don't think there will be many turning up to watch if they're not already fans. I reckon Loyles will be similar to that of Qotsa when they were against Elton, I definitely agree that likes of WH, Woodsies, Park etc will be heaving though. But yeah it was v odd to see Loyle Carner supported by those 2. That said, the Andre 3000 flute set was one of the worst things I have ever seen (coming from a big Outkast fan) so his positioning made a bit more sense. That said, I think he'd still draw a respectable crowd, and is probably a cheap booking for the festival, and different from 1975 so there would be minimal crossover appeal, plus can't imagine there will be many other hip hop acts on at the same time. Yeah Andre3000 doesn't quite hit the mark with the whole flute thing does he, although it's quite funny watching him perform live and seeing people's reactions when they expected an Outkast-esque set! You're right though, Loyle is definitely a cheap booking, I just find it amazing they've decided to have him headlining it, think he'd struggle to fill more than 3-4k cap venues these days and there are so many more suitable artists around currently too but hey ho. Hoping theres a decent headliner to be found somewhere on Friday as I'd sooner be at the long drops than watching 1975 or LC.

Not in East London + besides Andre was doing his flute thing lol 1 hour ago, rmartin1803 said: Any chance of the chemical brothers being back this year ? Not touring live. Plus he headlined Forwards fest in Bristol in the summer that definitely was sold out so I do think he has a reasonable fan base.

Haha yeah it was actually really painful on the ears but seeing people leaving in their droves was v funny! I'd take LC over 1975 any day, but almost certainly wouldn't go to see him. It has really stood out the last few years how every other year of Glastonbury you get a lot of the same acts playing in slightly higher positions than their last visit, which makes things a bit less exciting musically. Beaming sunshine - Cymande, Lianne la Havas, Ezra Collective, Nas and LC. I have seen Loyle 1000 times by now - he's great live but christ is that a boring booking personally. Fingers crossed for West Holts on Friday night!
