ghandi
Went on my first 4 mile walk / March ( faster paced walk) , since October today after letting myself go when the weather / work and will power became more of a problem. Now we have tickets and xmas / new year are iver, I feel the need to get fot and lose weight, there is the goal at the end. Two years ago when I got to 85 kls I downloaded a walking app and got down to about 81 and felt comfortable. I take steroids as part of dealing with scarcodosis and it dosn't help with the weight loss No drink shall I partake for at least a month, along with re engaging with the getting fit. I am 63 end if Jan so health is a concern as well.

All I can say as a bit of a binge drinker in the past is that about 10 yrs ago I had to cut back because of a blood disorder that forced me to change my drinking habits. That was inadvertantly a great change for me and I still enjoy a drink but with less quantity and cutting out a fair bit that I now realise was just routine/habit. Probably benefitted me mentally more than physically tbh. Good luck with it馃槈 As for Glastonbury generally, am by no means ultra fit but used to do a fair bit of running and more latterly cycling, and go to the gym a fair bit. Last year I found it fine as a 55 yo being out from 10am until the early hours each day (and stayed up at Worthy View last yr so a fair trek). There is lots of walking but it's broken up such that I don't really notice the miles build up. Deffo worth getting into the habit of walking if don't already before going (and in shoes you are going to wear at the festival). I mean, one evening is ok, I'm sure I can do 3 evenings a week, just need to maintain it...and just take the whole booze thing out of my life a bit...thinking about it all the time, hiding it from the family etc. Like a lot of people booze and pubs has been a big part of my life, but I've never got into spirits and these days I don't often actually get proper pissed..but since covid have got into the habit of having several beers and/or a few glasses of wine every evening starting 5ish, but only for a few hours, I won't carry on until I'm paralytic. If I'm honest and calculated it though I'm probably having 40-60 units per week so need to cut down. Maybe one day I'll have to knock it on the head altogether like my Dad and brother did, but not there yet. I'll be 55 this year, and apart from the booze am pretty fit. Used to do quite a lot of running, long distance races etc., but over last few years life and injuries has got in the way a bit. Been picking it up again recently and running 30/40 miles per week. Love running to be honest. On days I don't run I try and walk a lot, I have a target on my garmin watch app thingy to get above 13.5k steps/day, which I mostly hit. I cycle to work too, when I can be arsed and when weather favourable, so not as much as I should! So I'm kind of ok fitness wise but have got some growing pains, various aches and pains, a bit of tinnitus, some anxiety..maybe cutting down on the booze will help with some of that. Talcroft
Well, I didn't manage Red January (didn't even try in the end, too much on), but as of this morning, I am 3 stone down since 2024 festival! Over half way there, another 1-2 to go. Haven't run much since having flu at the start of Dec so must start that up again this week. 3
FKA SOSOTWS
Planning on hitting the Stairmaster four times per week, 30 minute per session. No holding the railings. Trust it'll help with stamina, which I struggled with this past summer at Glasto. Edited January 14 by FKA SOSOTWS
dvbsh
A bit worried, I last went in my twenties almost 20 years ago. So trying to sort myself out a bit. First an exercise bike regime, figure the less kg I'm carrying by then the easier it might be. I'm good with standing and walking long distances which should help. paulshane
I'm currently (I know its only two weeks 馃槃 ) on target for logging at least 30mins of something every day in strava, either cycling or walking. Also managing to stay off beers during the week, which is at least giving me a million times better sleeps at night 馃檪 still haven't weighed myslef as I don't feel lighter, but still plenty of time I hope 馃檪 off for a 15km loop on my bike now, in the misty fog

Stokesy10
So I was excited to put a 6 month plan in place from Jan to improve my flexibility (priority - I cannot cross my legs, nor sit with my arse on my heels without searing pain) and lose a small amount of weight/improve fitness. I'm not in awful shape, but certainly the worst I've been. Historically sporty. Football and badminton. Cannot stand running. 2nd Jan. First football training session in 5 months. Motivated. Played an awesome 55 mins. Then totally obliterated my ankle ligaments. They're ruined. Currently feeling very sorry for myself. Perhaps some adapted yoga for a while and pray I can do some more intensive exercise in advance of GF from April, perhaps.
