Chazwozza Posted yesterday at 02:45 PM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 02:45 PM Well, after the stressy business of last Thursdays ticket sale (got nowhere in that particular horror btw) I’ve had informal confirmation from my team leader that I’ll be on their litter picking team again - words can’t express how relieved I am not to have everything depending on Sunday mornings sale. Best of luck to everyone, especially if you’re after a volunteering position. 1

Knowing you have a place regardless of ticket day is the best volunteer perk but one I often forget about when asked. I normally say about the extra days on the farm, free meals, crew bars, hot showers, secure camping, cheap campervan spaces etc, but forget that my place there is pretty certain! Pinhead
Resided myself to working again but actually it works out better for me priority wise if I do it next year

I've got priority from doing 2 this summer, but as of now am still feeling the ticket day nerves for our group of 6 as only 2 of us will be there regardless. We're going to celebrate tomorrow afternoon either way!

It'll be my fourth for Avalon so I'm pretty much guaranteed I think. I don't want to work though, I have a demanding job in the real world, I am definitely not one of those "I'll never go as a punter" types so I still put myself through the sale every time. But definitely would rather be there than not.
Flighty Zoo
Could anyone give best advice on how to volunteer? Been as a punter since 2022. Got extremely close to getting through before tickets sold out. if it helps, I’m deaf and spoke to DeafZone at Glastonbury last year but didn’t hear back. would love to know other avenues. Though, with that said, I'd rather do bars than almost any of the other available jobs on site - it's fun, easy work with a nice vibe isn't it. I found a link by accident on here in 2019 and have never really looked back in that respect. Have a scroll back through this thread. There's a list of collated opportunities floating around, if it's not on here yet try searching in the Volunteering 2024 thread. Failing that I'm sure it'll be updated in the new year.

Exactly this - 8 hours is a LONG shift on your feet and that half hr break is extremely measly. But the vibe / actual work was fine (I'm chatty, so happy to serve people drinks) and the perks are decent. It's just missing out on a lot of other stuff is the kicker. Yep on the W/A group though it's currently dormant (and the E&D chat as well).

Indeed - admittedly this was a few years ago now, but talking to one of the office staff I was told it's "about half". Even if that's gone up substantially since then, I'd still expect priority to be an effective guarantee of a Glastonbury place (though obviously they can't/won't advertise it as such). It's the likes of Bearded and Trees where it becomes a scramble.

balti-pie
Bearded is typically the first one that goes in priority - last time it lasted maybe a minute before filling. 150 spots! Beautiful days always fills up quickly too, though I havnt got round to that one yet, might give it a bash one of these years. Glastonbury is always fine in priority though I do it within the first ten mins too, just because I like to 😁 get it done and confirmed, and then relax! It’s such a result not having to worry about ticket nonsense like this morning; I try every year for mates, and havnt even seen the booking page since 2016 I believe. Ridiculous

What was the rule change? The supervisor one or something different? I didn't think the supervisor one would make much difference as I'd guess the majority of supervisors do 2 fest a year anyway. What is certain is any places are left after priority will be gone in seconds this year!

I haven't been to a festival in years and last stewarded in 2010(!) at Beautiful Days (Womad & Big Chill) I was hoping to do one or two to get back in to it next year

There might have been a time limit on it, can't remember the exact number, but it was at least a couple years maybe a fair bit more. So loads more people had priority under that criteria than do under the various 2016 onwards rules, many of whom only dipped in when they came up short on Glastonbury tickets. As a result Glastonbury did come much closer to filling in priority most years - and one year (I think 2014 or 2015, right before they changed the criteria) they had to set a cap on priority places so that they at least had *some* still available to offer to first timers.
JackP1994
Hi all, No luck with tickets today or Thursday. My wife got through today as they sold out devastatingly. So it looks like I’ll be back with Oxfam next year. Glastonbury this year was our first one with them and we had a blast. I did ArcTanGent 🤞 Wife couldn’t get the time off work to do a 2nd so hopefully Oxfam general sale would be kind to us to secure hers. Hoping we’ll both be back next year as it was an absolute privilege to have a week on the farm.

Needing one is a lot better than needing two, I couldn't believe it when we both got in on general last year. Wouldn't fancy having to repeat that though! After the initial disappointment this morning I'm now thinking of the Monday and Tuesday, and the extra time there.
