In this (at the moment still) hypothetical scenario of sharing queue IDs, what's to stop the nightmare situation of a well connected individual asking (or offering a bounty to) all of their followers to hop in to the queue and then when someone gets through DM'ing that queue ID back to the person they follow and then collecting the likes or bounty?

Looks to be nothing, but nothing is stopping people from offering rewards in the current system.

In the current system, the followers would need to pay with their own card (in hopes of being reimbursed) and that is what prevents this abuse.

Coach sale will most likely be it, but they didn't have it enabled for the Boss, Coldplay, or Oasis but I don't think it was set top then.

 

Just had a thought Kendal calling have a sale tomorrow so it might get used then.

So, quick question then. Are places in the queue randomly allocated to those in the waiting room pre-sale and then anyone that joins after are allocated a queue ID at the back of the queue…or is it always random? If the former, do you need to refresh at exactly 6pm/9am to be allocated a random place in the queue? Or does this happen automatically for any session connected and waiting when the sale goes live?

Not essentially.....follower gets through, calls buyer, buyer gives own card details to follower who purchases.  There's risk and trust involved however we spin it, but there's always a way.

I think current evidence is that anyone in the waiting room pre sale start gets allocated a random queue spot once the sale starts, with no advantage to joining early, or late, or refreshing just before sale start.....unless I'm missing something?

Grand! So, basically just make sure any sessions you want to get a queue ID for are in the waiting room before it goes live and then hope one of them gets allocated an early slot. Presume joining after the sale has started means a slot at the back of the existing queue?

Yes, I’d agree with that. If any major changes are to be made regarding ticketing then they’ve a few years to sort it out with the fallow year in 2026.

Akamai CDN (which it looks like see are using), are set up so they have lots of servers near the user network access point to improve content delivery, they are integrated to most ISP networks, so everyone on sky would connect to the Sky Akamai servers and Virgin the virgin ones, that will give the queue page and once you are at the front of the queue it will pass you to see.

 

Technically speaking the site shouldn't fall over and everyone gets a queue pace, the only issue is the servers managing the queue being able to handle the number of request for a queue ID and tracking.

 

In my old days working at an ISP they used to do a lot of video streaming for the BBC and Netflix, which saved the core network from being hammered at peak times.

Implementing a queue of this nature is no longer a change from their perspective - they've already added the functionality to the various sites, and (seemingly successfully) used it in a live environment.

 

Now that doesn't guarantee they'll use it for Glastonbury, but it means the "they won't want to change things" argument doesn't wash. They already have.

To be honest, the most frustrating aspect of the current system is the See site crashing/hanging as you try to complete payment. Back and forth multiple times trying to get it to go through. While this queue system (if implemented) might be a pain in the arse in terms of getting through in the first place, hopefully it makes things more stable once you finally do.

Unfortunately I read from a few people during the Sam Fender sale that they still had issues on payment, and of course ticketmaster have a queue system and people often have issues when buying (I've never had an issue, once I have a ticket selected).

I would think in the case of queue ID sharing that there is no risk or trust involved. There's no need for the buyer to send card details; only for the follower to send the queue ID to the buyer.

- Follower shares a queue ID for an event that they either already have tickets for or are not interest in. No financial risk other than time.
- Requester gets queue ID from a follower. Either it's good and they get tickets or it's not and they move on.

 

Unless I'm misunderstanding how one would reconnect a browser with a previously acquired queue ID. Perhaps the queue ID is session locked with another cookie, but then why bother providing the option to reconnect.

I'm confused....(not unusual)...when are Q IDs invalidated? At some point, a Q ID needs to lose its ability to gain access to the actual See ticket purchase servers....I'm assuming that a "privileged" ID needs to be retired at some point in order to release a new ID, otherwise the number pf buyers hitting the See servers grows over time as "privileged" IDs are passed around and the total amount of privileged users continues to grow.

My understanding is that a queue ID can only be used for one purchase.
Once tickets are secured with that ID, it can't be used to complete another transaction.

That's why you would only pass along a queue ID from a browser session #2 (or #3 or #4) that gets to the purchase page after you've already gotten through to buy your tickets on browser session #1.

Queue ID expire either 10 min after being allowed to proceed pass the queue or when the purchase is completed which ever one is first.

Waiting rooms are normally ope about half an hour before the sale starts
