Ticket tips and Tricks for 2025 festival

Akamai is being implemented, hopefully the bot protection and human detection side of it, for security, then once you clear that, you're placed in the Queue-It system. Queue-It 'should' reduce load on their own servers, meaning no repeat of the 2023 fiasco, where people who got through couldn't get tickets.

Queue it is being hosted on Akamai, then once you are at the front of the queue you get passed to seetickets servers for processing.

Procurement of a system like this would take several months in it's self.

Maybe where you work. Certainly where I work as well for that matter.

But (where I work at least) that's 100% a procedural thing - one of the marketing points that Queue-it use to sell themselves is that it can be purchased and brought online in "under 30 minutes".

It's literally a system designed to be bolted onto the front of an existing site, with minimal changes or prep work needed.

Unless I'm reading this completely wrong, if this new system works as intended, it's great news for most of us here (Unless you were one of those who was host file editing / cheating the system another way.)

*This all depends on them implementing Akamai's bot protection properly, and it being effective, obviously.

Though there are 2 people on this forum swearing that with the ability to share a queue-it position via a link, there are a ton of scammers ready to descend on the sale who can indeed beat queues (and then quickly sell their position on it) and are setup for it and that’s a brand new problem for the sale that is likely much worse than the HOSTS hack, which I agree was also terrible.

Apart from See tickets nobody knows the exact system that will be used and how it communicates within itself from one part to another - they can speculate, they can use educated guesses but nobody knows til a sale has happened.

After Thursday there will be loads saying they know exactly how to fiddle the system and get to the front of the queue and they will, as suggested by some on here, ask for payment to do it and will 'guarantee a refund' if you don't get tickets.

Anyone who trusts such people will likely get nothing except money stolen from them. They are touts and scammers who care about money and nothing else.

To add a less flippant answer -

At the end of the day it is true that (using the Queue-It system) a queue spot can be transferred between devices, and therefore between people, and therefore it logically follows that someone could try and flog it.

But really I just can't bring myself to care about that, given the time it takes faffing around, the lack of guarantees, and the extra risk you'd be introducing. Sure, a few people might go down that path. But as with the Hosts file thing - the numbers will be greatly exaggerated and overestimated. I'll just focus on maximising my own chances and get my ticket that way.

So it seems the biggest unknown is the ip limit / bot detection.

Here's an idea, how about if we set up groups for the coach sale to test this new system?

Say groups of 5 with set number of browsers/sessions

Group 1, 4 browsers

Group 2, 6 browsers

Group 3.........

Then report back with feedback/success.

We will all be on the coach sale regardless of whether we actually want a ticket, testing out this new system, so really we should do it in a cohesive manner.

I've never used Akamai but I would imagine it's similar to others, such as cloudflare, aws etc. As in the bot protection / human checks will come before you're placed into a queue, and will take place on different hardware, you'll then be forwarded to queue-it (wherever that is hosted.)

I primarily use cloudflare / zero trust to secure my own (self hosted) servers.

Or does Akamai work differently?

Queue-It and Akamai can be used interchangeably in this conversation.

They're different companies, but in this instance Queue-It is hosted / relies on the Akamai CDN, and the Akamai CDN (presumably) wouldn't be in play here if it it wasn't for Queue-It.

Queue-it is a service run on top of Akamai compute presence in DC's and associated acceleration services such as DNS. Its a cloud buy in like much of infra these days. I remember not that long ago it got 'poisoned' and half the internet went down, which shows the power they have over the caching services they offer

Akamai offers their own bot protection (nothing to do with Queue-It.) I had hoped, would hope, that this is why Akamai was chosen to host it.

But this won't presumably offer any protection against organised queue squatting on behalf of subscription based organisations that charge for their place in the queue on offer? Can see this being a big contribution to overall queue size this year.

I don’t, the scalpers work on getting in and getting the item to then resell. Getting a place in the queue where you don’t know where you are selling that and transferring it before the sale ends will only have a small window, and I don’t think that many people will be interested in that.

I'd tweak that a little bit and say there are too many poorly run festivals, most of them trying to capitalise on the current popularity of the culture, rather than put on a quality event. Not only is Glastonbury the vanguard for overall experience, I'd say it's also the best-run. Which is one of the main reasons for its longevity.

production wise theyre still mid. Sound is still shite overall so thats a negative in my book. Too bad they cant spend money in that area for another 5 years.

Possibly because they'd rather max out on what they can give to deserving charitable causes eh?

Why have they done this? I thought Emily had implied the old system was the fairest way of doing it, or something to that effect?

Things  finally got too out of control sale wise. As much as F5 works, last years sale having that huge exploit which came back to haunt them from a decade ago just made them do it sooner rather than what shouldve been later. I still do not like the idea of having this be their trial run and such. If it fails spectacularly then they will have to figure something out in 2 years time. We know nothing is perfect but people will find a way to get around the safeguards.

I just wonder whats going to give when it comes to these sales. Will it get too expensive and you lose instant sell outs? Will there be a couple years of not so stellar lineups that makes people lose trust? Will audience demo shifts turn off veteran attendees or even first timers who thought it would be something else experience wise? Will there be unfavorable weather which affects some of the above?

you dont really like the festival do you ?

Ive had a great time both years Ive attended, but theres nothing wrong with having some f**king standards. You wanna say youre the best in the world then give me the best in all areas. Nothing wrong with setting the bar to a certain level. If they meet or exceed it then they did their job.
