Do people think the new system will encourage more or fewer people to try on the day?

Have a feeling it’ll be exactly the same. If registration wasn’t part of the process, there would certainly be a lot more random “ah sure I’ll give it a lash” folk involved on the day, but since you have to go to the bother of actually registering for the festival, those that were planning on trying via the old system, will do the same with this. New system wouldn’t have specifically encouraged me to register if I had never been bothered before, so it’s the same pool of potential buyers one way or another.

Yeah I think you're probably right on that.

You'd think the big change will be the casual 'take it or leave it' people won't be giving up after 5 mins of refreshing and will now just be able to sit the queue out.

Yes, I’d agree with that. There could be more folk who arnt going to the festival helping out friends and relatives.

imagine the meltdown when someone says they got tickets by constantly refreshing😉😉😊😊😊

Yep…though in our groups, there have been some that come with us and have never secured their own ticket. They’re online on t’day, but perhaps aren’t as obsessive as others (our two core groups are, but we have others that join us and it’s always been someone from the core 12 that got through). Maybe now with a level playing field, those we’ve been carrying for years will get lucky as they have feck all to do but login on time! 😁

The 'waiting room' is the page you are on before it starts and when it starts you get plonked in the queue where you sit and wait........................ I suggest a fun playlist to take your mind off being able to nothing to get in apart from wait.

Maybe start with Kate Bush, Running up that Hill

Busy Doin’ Nothin’ by The Beach Boys

In other words a barrage of Layer 7 devices with behavioural inspection characteristics, but don't doubt that their protagonists understand these and will do their best to circumvent them.

Loads of browsers or queue attempts coming from a single IP that could look to See like a tout or someone trying to game the system, but don't doubt said tout will know that and have other cards up their sleeves and strategies to attempt to get round it.

Pretty much....

So…what does “joining the queue” involve exactly. Is it just simply loading the glastonbury.seetickets.com page in your chosen browser? Then that page auto-updates to allocate you a place in the queue when the sale goes live at 9am?

I expect there will be a button to click on the glastonbury.seetickets.com page.

Should be simple enough, but the fun comes when you can't get that page to load.

explain it in layman's terms, please?

The guy next to me at work spends his time configuring and monitoring similar devices from Palo Alto, Fortigate and such - they are very capable though I'm sure Akamai have considerably more expensive, sophisticated and capable distributed devices for this job. That said, the model the 'queue touters' use will look as natural and as normal as they can possiblly masquerade themselves as being in order to remain undetected and seemingly legitimate.

No button, it automatically gives you a random place in the queue as sales open.

Six and two would make more sense in terms of getting as many as possible in, but who's going to want to be in the group of two?

@BluePaul

You could solve that by not making groups at all.

Give all 8 persons a number.

If person 1 gets trough, he buys for person 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

If person 2 gets trough, he buys for person 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

...

If person 8 gets trough, he buys for person 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

This way everyone has an equal chance and no one had to be drawn beforehand in the unlucky group of two.

If you all are in direct communication you can quickly inform when one has tickets and everyone starts to try for the remaining two.
