Because Emily wants the same people getting in every year and us first timers shut out.

 

The actual fairest way would be to go back to in person tickets. 200-ish places across the UK selling 1,000 tickets each. Go and queue up overnight to get them.

I agree with the in person point, it’s the only way to stop bots, however it’s got nothing to do with wanting first timers shut out. Last year was the first time I had ever tried, and I got a ticket. 
 

this years system was arguably the most fair it’s been since being online

Just means it would be full of kids. I do think holding the sale at 4-37am on the Sunday would be fairest.

1995 - I walked into HMV in Oxford Street the week before and got one for 75 quid as did a mate. We went down 5 in the car 3 jumped the fence. Oh and Oasis were playing and it was hot one ! Everything before the internet was better. Insert something about Spangles.

I've been before. A lot. I missed out last year because I couldn't get a ticket. This morning I didn't get a ticket again. How is it an exclusive club?

The device we sorted tickets on didn't go to 3 bars until 09:08. We got in at 09:32 and initially got sold out after entering reg numbers and post codes. Kept resubmitting and eventually got allocated tickets and paid by 09:44.

 

Basically, if your bar doesn't start moving by 10 past you've got no hope. If it starts moving in the first 5 mins you're almost guaranteed (barring no other errors occur).

That's not happening now! 

 

Problem with in person is those who are working, haven't got cars etc. also some areas are way more populated than others, though maybe proportional distribution of tickets could help.

Less people going, no tv coverage, no social media 'influencers', not as much demand.

One window I had the bar started moving almost immediately after 9am.

I was about 2 bars from the end when it sold out.

The festival was a lot less known, a lot less popular, therefore getting tickets really wasn’t a problem nor did GFL have to manage massive over subscription. Selling over the counter was fine. Trying to do this now would probably lead to organised place saving and physical violence. 
 

It was also really easy to sneak in. I’ve only ever bought a ticket once (1985) and this year was my 26th (I think)

I'd give it a bit longer than 10 minutes. somebody earlier on in here went from 2 bars straight to 20 bars at 09:14 and was checked out by 09:18.

Basically, it needs to rain for the 5 days. Most of the festivals for the last 10+ years have had great weather, lots of current attendees have never experienced the drudge of a really muddy one. 2007 put me off the following year. That and a massive crash to the global economy. Then it should be handy enough to get tickets for a few years. Ok, I’m kidding (I shouldn’t even joke about rain! NFR NFC!), but that’s what it took to dampen demand before. There’s just too many people that want to go. Can’t please everyone and whatever system they pick will have flaws. Personally (even though I didn’t get sorted this morning), it seemed more stable than other years, which is a good thing. Weirdly doesn’t feel as bad not getting there when I never got close, compared to losing out as payment wouldn’t go through on the See site due to everyone simultaneously hammering F5.

ok so its my 18th so ill answer .... I f**king love it .... that feeling once through the gates the pressure of life released for a few golden days , high fives , hugs , smiles .... it's in no way exclusive to, each year we see multiple new people on here excited to go for their first time , and also people on here that may well call it a day , have a look at some of the threads where people have missed out . the festivals success is based on new people and thats why it sells out year on year it isnt because the oldies hog the tickets from youngsters the demographic is slowly switching to those that either are prepared to pay for bots or those that have better IT skills , is that the way to change it ? or should it just happen in a more natural way ? such as people just feeling the time is right after not getting them
