Ticket tips and Tricks for 2025 festival

Yes, it was, but we’re now in 2024 where we have access to highly sophisticated data that shows the danger of climate change. I don’t believe for a second that it’s the sign of a privileged life to worry about whether you’re doing something right or wrong - it’s open to the majority of people (and certainly average Glasto punter) to take advantage of the data they have at their fingertips. There is a deep irony here in that one of the most accepted facts of getting tickets for the festival is to have multiple devices running at the same time despite the messaging from the festival itself.

I recognise the irony here in that people have access to all of this data about how to game the Glastonbury ticket system, but really, it’s misplaced energy and it’s stupid for the festival to allow it to keep happening. There are bigger things to worry about and you literally just stand in the middle of the festival, look around, and see all the signs of the things that the festival wants you to be worried about.

In 20 years, unless there’s a rapid escalation in green technology and governments allowing that tech and companies to take root, the festival will be part of the history books. How is a giant week long festival even remotely sustainable when we’re living in the world we’re living in? It’s in the spirit of Michael Eavis to allow fence jumpers, but it’s very much in the spirit of the family and the festival to turn around and call time in recognition of how it’s no longer sustainable.

I don’t think we’re far off seeing the first glimmers of that starting to happen in the U.K. and across the world.

I think this conversation would be best over a pint (can I suggest late June!)

I feel a pure ballot would be one of the easiest ways to game. Create a squillion registrations with your name/dob/different addresses, then just change the address on the winning registration to your real address as you've "moved house" since the sale. If everyone's doing that, no way are glasto spending time and resources conducting huge scale investigations into the true previous addresses of every ticket holder, or investing in facial recognition technology.

The problem that exists is that the ticket buying system has been able to be gamed for years and years now in varying degrees. As someone else said, what's the difference between gaming the system and cheating the system? And given the system has basically been exploited to some extent by people for so long, it means that there is almost zero sense of fairness for the average ticket purchaser. If you know that last year 1000's of people go tickets via a 'hack' last year (and people presumably have been getting tickets for years via this route), why should you be expected not to exploit the system to your advantage this year.

Under the old system, you had various levels of gaming e.g.:

- Group of 6 people with multiple devices/browsers

- Syndicate of 60 people inputting each others credit card details depending on who gets through for each group with everyone running multiple devices/browsers

- Syndicate of 60 people inputting each others credit card details depending on who gets through for each group with everyone running multiple devices/browsers and some tech savvy people running autorefreshers

- People who have been using the hosts exploit for years

At what point do you draw the line in the above? Clearly the bottom three all give people an arguably unfair advantage and are exploiting the system to various degrees. The system was never set up for someone to book tickets on behalf of a group that they aren't part of, but people quickly worked out that the system could be easily exploited to allow that.

Under the new system, there are clearly again various levels of gaming the system. Seetickets should be doing better to prevent these, but again, can't really expect people not to exploit these vulnerabilities if they come across them given how much others exploited the old system...

Great summary. Thanks for taking the time to explain exactly how the situation is and has been in the past.

There was a certain app that allowed you to open numerous tabs with different queue positions. Not sure if it’s classed as gaming the system as it was very simple and anybody could have done it.

Saying that, with 40 tabs open, only got through the once. Probably shows what sort of chances people were having. Cant beat them, join them.

More like 100, people who I know got through 4 times from one laptop.

You seem like a nice guy, but I don’t think you understand how you get tickets every year.

You were part of a ticket syndicate of how many groups? 10? More? That had 100% success last year. You literally tweeted boasting about it.

If you think that wasn’t from the HOSTS workaround that every syndicate was passing around, I’m not sure what I can say to convince you except to let you know that it most certainly was.

That's a *very* unsafe assumption.

My (different) group had 100% success in November 2023, with a large number of tickets. I'm reasonably certain that nobody used the hosts file hack.

I was aware of it, but didn't want to risk using it, and as the resident techie of the group I'm pretty sure that if anyone else had come across it they would have queried it with me - nobody did. The buying patterns didn't suggest anyone in the group had used it - ticket purchases were spread around different people, and we didn't have anyone get multiple (more than 2) groups in the sale.

yep was about 10 groups ... a few went for it some didnt mine were brought first time by someone getting her own that didnt ... and im likely out tbh as I stated elsewhere this has tipped it ..... this year I benefited from going for the coach sale where everyone stuck to the advice pretty much although obviously cant answer for extended networks mine was brought by someone using  3 iPads I think

To be a bit of a hippie, I don’t think you have the right idea of who purchased your tickets every year.

Your tickets are not purchased by the individual that actually buys them so much as all the people who team up together who are willing to get a ticket for you potentially.

My success came from every person trying in my 3 groups, because each of their multiple attempts added another statistical chance of them getting through and me getting a ticket. The person that actually gets through is just a detail, though one you are hanging on to I think because it makes you look like less of a hypocrite right now. If you were in a group that was using the HOSTS hack, or 90 browser windows this year, you were benefiting from that method no matter which specific individual got through for you.

Though no one please do use my hippie/team pov as a rationale to not buy the actual person that got you the ticket a round. 😉

I wish you luck in the future if you do choose to leave your syndicate. You are certainly going to need it.

re. taking moral positions, the only thing that prevents me from 'cheating' to get tickets is that I'm technologically uneducated and I'd have no idea where to begin. If I had access to a bot/backdoor entrance (oi) or the back button worked for me, I'd 100% be doing that. What difference is it morally that multiple groups of my friends get tickets, instead of some strangers getting them 'fairly' elsewhere in the country? I don't care and perhaps a huge assumption but I reckon most would agree.

My take on this whole scenario is that anyone who says the have been to more than 10 Glastonburys in a row either

1) Has more jam than Hartleys

2) Has manipulated the old system

The new system will not hold favour with a lot of people because its new and different. However if had been that way forever and then the festival changed to what we have had for the last 20 years  -  people wouldn't like that either.

With supply Vs demand there will never be a "fair" way to do it that suits all.

Calling people names, having arguments is all pretty futile. To all those who got tickets well done, to all those who didn't try the resale or good luck in 2 years.

I was lucky this year in a group of 5 friends we got tickets and i also went last year but there have been 10 (yes TEN) baron years before that for me in trying every year! I'd practically given up on ever going again!

Going to have to step in here folks as this thread is veering very close to personal attacks on other members.

Debate is good but lets all keep it to friendly debate please.

Please may I remind users of the above message, let's get back to discussion not personal attacks.

There are no prizes for being pure (aside from not having the ticket) so you may as well join the gang in trying to beat the system.

It's not right, not fair and arguably against the Glastonbury ethos but it's where we are. I guess sharing the exploits far and wide is the best approach, like whoever posted a load of queue it links to reddit. Sure they've gamed the system, but they've exposed its possible which will force action. Clearly a few people sat on the hosts exploit for a few sales - probably all of them since covid - and it was only when it leaked that we saw a change.

I’ve only missed 1 festival in the last 11 years, all from “legit” ways of getting a ticket. So I guess I am “jammy”, I prefer to call it lucky 😅. But if I was tech savvy enough to “hack” the system, I absolutely would. We’re all on here discussing this because we all love Glastonbury festival. I think anyone saying they would pass on a ticket that had been acquired through a hack is lying to themselves.

If you dont want to get the coach just do the sunday sale

Interesting topic.

Coaches are a license tickbox.

If they really cared about it they would sell 25,000 or whatever coach tickets and then assign departures from there based off a top 3 preference or something.

People go in groups of 6 with their mates, something more important for most than where they live. we have people coming down from the north to get the coach with us as we wanted to be a group of 6 - and we aren't even going from London (as they sell out silly quick), instead of Southampton.

They need to address some of the issues with the coach system if they want people to use them properly - they have been f**ked for years. I'd have loved a London coach but after getting through i'm hardly going to give up on a ticket for the sake of an hour train down to southampton.
