I have no patiens screenshoting rhe overwhelmingly positive comments, but I am a f**king nerd so I tallied the positive and negative emojies in both first announcememts (fb since Instagram does not have this feature).

last year 1.4k reactions, 18% negative

this year 514 reactions, 10% negative

Now there are far less reactions (could be down to algorithm or the fact that I can’t remember that last tear we also had a video announcement first?

But either way my point stands, reactions are looking better this year.

That's called apathy and, in this context, is far more problematic for the organisers than negativity.

Oh god, you guys are hellbent on making this lineup look worse than what it is.

As I said, it can be down to a platora of things.

If you look at Instagram, last year the first announcement had 10919 likes, this year 18236, nearly double…

Facebook has gone down in engagement significantly aince last year, so overall like numbers don’t matter as much as percentage of positive / negative reactions.

wether you like it or not, this is a more popular line ip compared to last year.

Love your positivity.

Proof will be in ticket sales.

The first announcement from last year had 28k likes so its 10k less 😜

Edit: and the one for 2023 had 34k likes...

My short review: strong enough headliners that will sell, but weak undercards.

The problem is an identity crisis because we don't know what to expect at all, is it a live festival or an electronic festival or what?

This will result in them becoming even more dependent on headliners and lineup, which is the exact opposite of what they wanted.

Forums are full of people with opinions. Thousands of them. And their opinions often differ.

My opinion is that Sziget has failed to fully outline its direction for 2025.

We have no idea what the next announcement will look like. And we should. Their first announcement was all over the place. It was weighted towards EDM, yet the headliners were weighted more towards pop, and in there was Kneecap and Papa Roach.....

I get the feeling of a festival that has lost its way and doesn't really know what it wants to be. That might be wrong, but how are we to know?

I always viewed it as a very cool festival with a bit of everything, like a mini Glastonbury. That's how I described it to people. I now have no idea how to describe it.

In recent years they've always had pretty weak undercards, but I've found some diamonds there - Royel Otis and Ari Abdul last year.

This year, I've listened to every act and half of them sound identical to my ears. I'm older so lump all EDM together under that banner. My bad I guess but I'm sure others will have done the same.

Some indie, pop and rock need to appear in larger numbers in announcement two for me to be remotely happy.

You guys both wrote what i wanted but i am on phone at work. Couldnt agree more.

The problem i see is also that if there is not enough non-electronic names on the lineup, festival will lose a big portion of the audience and limit itself to a smaller group of the audience they can appeal to.

Very good points.

The thing is with the EDM on show, they don't have a clutch of big names in edm. If that's your bag, what do you choose. Sziget, Untold, Tomorrowlands or creamfields? Sziget at the bottom I'd say.

Same with the non edm music, is there enough to sway from the likes of Roskilde, wetchter, opener, nos alive etc.

The fact we're even questioning what direction the festival is going cannot be a good thing for organisers. I know people are saying Chappell and Charli are good additions and they've got a positive reaction (as well as Anyma), but they're playing other festivals as well. Festivals that have their regulars and have an identity.

I feel like the first announcement was an attempt at attracting a new audience. The issue is, I don't think it's strong *enough* for people to change their plans, when other festivals have fuller, better lineups already announced, which have Sziget headliners and more. Not to mention people will be taking a gamble on what's to come.

It feels like Sziget is in limbo. Nobody really knows what direction it's going in. The last couple of years feels like Sziget has lost it's star-power. Maybe to others it's gotten better, but as the festival has gotten more expensive, the lineups have not matched.

Really hope I'm wrong on this and things do resemble what they were previously, with a hint of modernity for a newer crowd.

Like I said earlier it’s gone from a 60/40 live music to DJ split to 40/60. Yes, there is more of a focus on EDM than they’ve had in previous years, but it’s hardly become Tomorrowland.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next lineup announcements continue the same theme with a lot of DJs but also a decent amount of live music.

This is the point I was trying, and failing, to make when I listed all the acts' Spotify numbers.

The three headliners are excellent, I'm looking forward to them all. But after that there are lots of very small EDM acts and a few moderate acts.

36 acts listed iirc

14 have more than 1m monthly listeners.

Of that 14, eight of them are live acts (Blossoms, Kenya Grace etc)

So, you are left with a couple of dozen EDM acts with a little number of 'fans'. Even Boris Brejcha, who is on second line with Nelly Furtado and Juatice, has less than 2m.

I know people say you can't judge EDM acts on Spotify figures but it does give people that recognisabiliy

factor.

i think boris and armin will have a day each at the party arena like diplo etc..

they are big for edm lovers and will be at their place.

i know we want bigger names, but lets just give it aome time and see, last year the small stages were great again after 2 years with poor line ups (im talking about circus, magic mirror...), so if bringing smaller acts gives the activities and smaller stages more - id take that.

sziget IS about the whole expirience and not just main stage even if it is a hugh factor in it.

I feel like this type of EDM went down well with the Hungarians. Boris Brejcha has sold out shows in Budapest every single year no matter how sh*tty the organisation is. And while Sziget can’t and shouldn’t build on this audience, lots of Hungarians will buy 30k day tickets to see him,Brutalismus 3000 etc. especially after the cancellation of Balaton Sound.

What size are the shows he's sold out?

Budapest Arena mostly. Not sure about exact capacity because they can remove segments, but similar crowd as Bonobo, and about 30% less than Slipknot or Tool (other gigs I attended in the same venue). I’m guessing somewhere around 8-10k

looking at this might even be 15k

Yeah I was about to post a crowd pic. I suppose it’s around 15k. They posted multiple times that the first 10k will receive a mask he wears on stage and people in the comments were complaining that they said all ticket holders will receive one. So must’ve been more than 10k (i’m referring to his show in August)

Just seen that he played Wembley Arena last month too (capacity around 10,000 I think) so he's obviously significantly bigger than I anticipated. He just operates in a genre that holds no real interest for me so I guess I pay no attention to his gigs.

Well I guess they took into account the most selected artists from their initial wish machine, as Justice & Nelly Furtado were among the ones we could select. I don't know if these 2 were so popular but I have some hopes that we'll get The Cure, The Killers and/or The Strokes, as these bands were also in there. Post Malone and QOTSA were also there. Let's see what happens next.

Given the new direction, I would be amazed if we got more than one indie/rock band headliner. There's only Papa Roach and Blossoms in the undercard who might fall into that genre.

So far we've got:

1 x EDM

2 x Pop

I suspect we might get an indie/rock headliner, another pop act and, maybe, either another EDM star or perhaps a rapper.

Although, I do hope I'm wrong!

Got to be a hard rock band hasn't it? If Papa Roach are subbing.

I would be very surprised if it's QOTSA.

Or Avril Lavigne because she was also listed on the wish machine. Lenny Kravitz too.
