Do you know what, I disagree with that as loads of the families seem to head for the exits before the headliner even starts.   Thats why I think they do really well with that early ish guest spot plus full of the stuff for the 40 + brigade

If The Prodigy are doing Boardmasters, I don't see them at this.

I doubt very few people will spend a lot of money on tickets to see the undercard alone unless you are the sort of people who hang around on efestivals. Yeah, if you have family, care duties of course you will put their needs first and not be that bothered by always  seeing the last acts.

 

The special guest afternoon slot is genius and as you say works well for families but I don't think clipping a few of the other afternoon/early evening acts would put families off from buying tickets. However, cuting the family stuff would.

 

I know lots of people who will only go to a festivals (one day events) if they like the headliner and really don't give a toss who is on the undercard. It's one of the reasons I now tend to go to festivals with just my partner as I like to enjoy the whole day and see new bands. I have now been to enough Victorious festivals to know its relatively quiet during the day but gets busier late on.

 

I think I could put together an impressive list of would of, could of and should have seen acts that I missed in my youth because mates (different groups) would rather sit in the pub or campsite as only interested in the last acts. Maybe its just me and its only my opinion.

 

Why do we spend so much time talking about headliners if they are not the main draw for the average punter? By the way, I dont class efestival members as "average punters" I consider them serious music fans and hence why we care about the other acts.

Do you know that definitely with The Prodigy as that's sh*t if so. And likewise I wouldn't see them doing both, don't think it's ever happened.

 

Though as said before Kasabian did do Kendal, Y Not and Victorious, it's rare for it to happen one does all 3.

Very good points on Kendall and tramlines rumours for prodigy. If tramlines is announced, they are a lock in for victorious as there are always shared headliners in superstruct festivals. 
 

which leaves the final headliner, which I hope is a random and unique one as per last few years (I had hoped this would be pulp but looks like superstruct might have block booked). 
 

worst case scenario is that pulp go to boardmasters and miss victorious which would be a disaster as they are the most perfect victorious band

Pulp would certainly go down better at Victorious with its mixed crowd but will the money draw them to Boardmasters.

Prodigy announced for Kendal and Y Not so far, so presumably could be also on for either of Victorious/Boardmasters (both Superstruct, but targeted at different demographics) under a multi-festival deal. Could also appear next year if they're not on this year.

 

Not sure how much cross-over there is for Superstruct UK and Europe, but Pulp also did 3 Nordic festivals owned by them last year.

😂, glad you added the bit at the end as I was just about to jump on it.

 

Im speaking from families myself, my mate who comes every year has never seen a headliner, we skipped one or left early other years, we situate ourselves next to the exit (until we found a better one on Sunday this year) and there are lots leaving.  Maybe as a proportion it’s small.  There’s lots of locals there and tbf they go because of the location too and not who’s playing.

 

anyway, don’t suppose it matters too much, they’ll carry on doing what’s been successful

I really like Victorious and think its a great fest. I enjoy the fact that it offers so much to so many different people and don't want it to move away from appealing to families and locals. It does so many things well and delivery a great experience.

 

As, I travel from London and factoring in travel and hotel costs I like to see a decent amount of the ticket price spent on the headliners to justify the cost. For me the cheap part of Victorious is the ticket price.

Yeah fully understand mate.  We're knocking on the head now as the kids have got older so it’s not really beneficial with the additional costs involved.  Would massively reccomend it though

Worth a big mention in here as this has come up that in the last 3 years at least Boardmasters have not shared a headliner with Y Not or Tramlines. I've also gone to 2021 but can't remember every festival that happened in 2021. 

 

 

I would say that makes for either of those two bigger one's Victorious more likely. The thing is as well, Victorious has the edge of others if the bands want to play multiple shows whereas Boardmasters get who they get but they are more exclusive

I agree here personally. Because Victorious is so far away, the cost is reasonable but with travel etc on top the headliners need to suit. This yesr the Biffy Day was decent for me and the Fatboy day wasn't the worst but just made it a pain being separate days.

In 9 years of Victorious, I have only seen 5 headliners to conclusion. My kids have been going since age 3 and circumstances mean we very rarely stay to the end with them. 
 

last year, the exodus after Lathums to either sugababes or home was incredible and courteeners / Jamie t the smallest crowd I have seen for a headliner. 
 

it’s a day festival and I hope it stays that way as it suits me and the family. Many happy memories created there.

Are The Reytons actually of any notable size outside of South Yorkshire? Thought it was a purely regional love affair.

I think they go down well in Liverpool too, hence probably the NBHD booking, and I think they've done Kendal in the past
