EOTR 2025 line-up speculation topic

Here it is just that I've seen Caribou, Goat, Sharon Van Etten, Tropical f**k Storm, Father John Misty, Black Country, New Road and a few others as openers or on small festival stages between ~2006 and 2019? Are they all better now? I must say I have no memory at all of being impressed back then.

Surely "I saw/could have seen them on the way up" is the case with the vast majority of artists? If anything you should be able to chart an act's rise on the way up to headliner/big font size on the poster level. That's what the whole pipeline thing Emily Eavis always talks about is, not a reason in and of itself to criticise booking.

Sure, acts get bigger and higher on the lineup, but that's not really what I was saying.

For this lineup, I've seen most acts before. Now I need to figure out: are they better now, hence this lineup may be for me, or are they the same, so this lineup is not for me. I have no idea what is the answer yet. There are certainly a few artists where I much prefer the later albums or gave them a 2nd chance... although for some reason not that often.

I meant which names. Eg which three acts that have impressed you in recent years.

This year, that I had never seen before 2024: Haley Heynderickx, Dummy, Goat Girl, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Tara Clerkin Trio, Drahla, Wednesday, Mary Lattimore, English Teacher, Massive Attack, Young Fathers. Best that I had seen before: difficult to say but probably High Llamas because of my link with them.

I understand your points now 🙂

We’ve only had a fraction of acts announced today (and in my opinion a pretty decent set of headliners). I agree with others that it’s slightly unusual to announce the first wave now, when in previous years the first wave announcement has been later and much broader in terms of the number of acts. Yes it means the undercard looks a bit sparse but that’s just because it’s an initial list - I think it will be the second wave where it all comes together.

I guess it's so hard to be objective about these things. I loved the line-up this year... the headliners especially were a crazy clash fest. And now this... pretty much my three least favourite largish artists in the alternative music space, plus Caribou who I loved 15 years ago but for me have really lost it. I'm sure the undercard will be amazing as usual and I'm excited by Ela Minus, Lisa O'Neil and Throwing Muses... but other than Father John Misty (who I accept is popular but just don't get) I don't understand what any of these artists have done in recent years to merit being elevated to headliners.

It's still early days with only 19 bands announced, but wow those headliners are poor IMO... Couldn't think of a better cure for insomnia than a Sharon van Etten headline set, and the less said about Self Esteem the better 😐 Caribou would have been a very good headliner in the early 10s but hasn't really done anything great since Swim.

The undercard is decent though - Emma-Jean Thackray, Geordie Greep, Goat, John Maus and Mohammad Syfkhan all get a thumbs up from me. Hopefully Geordie and/or Goat will be topping the Garden Stage so I can watch those instead of the Woods Stage headliners.

Missed this year for the first time since 2011, mainly because I just fancied a break but also the diminished quality of the facilities post covid put me off somewhat. The line up was very decent I thought. Was waiting for an announcement before making my mind up re: next year. I've seen FJM at EOTR before ( he was excellent) and the other headliners don't really interest me ( not for the first time to be fair). There's going to have to be some stellar announcements to entice me back I think.

I thought facilities wise, this ear was better than last year's. So that aspect has definitely improved

Seems unfair to judge based off this line up drop. However, headliners aren’t my thing, apart from Sharon Van Etten who I think is an excellent Thursday headliner for EOTR, and the undercard generally looks fairly uninteresting at the moment when compared to recent EOTRs. However, I would expect this to change by the time the full line up is out. Mohammad Syfkhan is the only name that really excites me, but I’d be interested in seeing Lisa O’Neil, Goat, Rosali, These New Puritans and Throwing Muses as well.

For what it’s worth, I think Caribou and Father John Misty are very solid headliners for EOTR stature/size wise, even if I’m not a massive fan of either.

I will be at Green Man anyway rather than EOTR but I am an admirer of the EOTR line ups so will be following along!

Reminded me to actually buy a ticket

Seen FJM twice, first time really good, second time ok (odd venue). He's got loads more songs now and I like his latest.

What are Caribou like live?

Caribou can be a lot of fun live if he clicks. If he doesnt, can be a little dull, but more often than not ive enjoyed them live

Happy enough with the acts announced yesterday. SVE was great in 2019 at Glastonbury, likewise Self Esteem in 2022. Bit surprised she is a Woods headliner, I would have thought Garden. Hopefully her new album will be as good as last. In Simon I trust and that second announcement will fill out Garden headliners and undercard. Been the last 4 years and he has not let me down yet.

Self Esteem is a huge name, she headlined Green Man last year and her presence seems to be driving most of the music press reporting about the announcement, not to mention that if you only watch Channel 4 you'd think she was the biggest pop star in Britain.
