IOW is a joke these days to be fair

They topped it alongside George Ezra / Fatboy and Noel Gallagher, probably a good slot to mark as the start of their fall down lineups actually

IOW 100% had a moment when they because a festival primarily booking major festival sub headlining bookings.

Can't call IOW a joke if they're burning the money on Green Day, I'd say.

No one said they're a joke but what major festivals in England that book major headliners are booking The Prodigy and PSB to headline? They played Reading second stage, Parklife and would headline Glastonbury Other stage. They need to make bookings clearly for medium sized headlining festival's to be able to afford your Green Day's and their day clearly had the money just saved for them. None of Keane, Simple Minds or The Streets are major festival subs.

Are latitude a major festival? Keane headlined that last year.

I guess you’re literally only talking about Glastonbury and R&L being major festivals otherwise

No Latitude aren't, they are a medium sized festival and look who headlines it. Also yes London Grammar was a co-headliner with Keane....a Park headliner and a 4th down Pyramid act this year. 40k capacity the same size as Kendall Calling which is regularly up for vest medium sized festival. While on this as well, I think Victorious regardless of size is major in terms of size but medium mostly intermediate of acts. It's gets away with it as it's literally out the way from anything but none of their headliners are going to play at the too of major English festivals much for me now and I include Biffy Clyro in. Cemented sub. If they headline Truck and Download still boll them to headline purely because they want exclusives they've lost all credibility.

So when you say about big/major festivals all you’re talking about is Glasto and R&L.

Not really much to go on when you say about major festivals wouldn’t book X and Y is it?!

The UK major music festivals for weekends now are Download, Glastonbury and Reading. I think to add other one's like TRNSMT and IOW to that the lineups have to make cuts elsewhere to do that.

You've got BST and outdoor bigger parks but they are single events. In England itself I believe that only IOW is now not apart of that. We have for a while now had more smaller and medium sized festivals.

You've got the odd time a thought of big headliner has played events whether they might have a dip or not or as part of a bigger deal. Take Latitude 2018, Solange and Alt-j joining the same year. The difference in that year is all to see. Only UK event judging by setlist she's done

The big six was Glastonbury, R+L, V Festival, T in the Park, Download and Isle of Wight back in the day.

Think Muse are the only act to headline all six.

As long as IOW are still booking a stadium headliner - and would you look at that, Stereophonics - they're a big one for me.

Yep agreed, I still see IOW as a major festival myself as they still book stadium acts (or BST headlining acts).  People make far too many comparisons with Glasto, oh they’d be 3rd/4th down… who gives a sh*t.   Thankfully there’s a market for the festivals we have in the UK.

anyway, hey Ho.

Depends how you define it - their attendance is only about 50k these days. Its all well and good shelling out for a big headliner for one, but if the other two don't stack up then is it really major.

For instance, Kendal Calling had Stereophonics, Supergrass and Bastille in 2022 - by your logic that also makes them a big festival lol

Its definitely a agree to disagree type thing though.

Forgot about V fest. End of the days some acts will just go where the money is and that has an impact on other bookings...that doesn't make it a major festival or we call the likes of Lytham bigger than they are for getting certain acts like The Strokes.

The money was certainly there at Lytham, though I'd also suggest that when The Strokes played, it felt like a "coup" without strictly being one for size. The rarity factor helped immensely, but not sure they'd be handed out offers from the upper rung of the ladder anymore.

Muse surely not one in the mix, could they be?

Probably too big for the festival. They sell out stadiums regularly so I doubt they will play to 25k. Be ace if they did though and I'd one million percent be there.
