Salopian
This was an hour well spent last night - some Green Man artists of 2024 and a few others from previous years... https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0026hxs Shame it was hidden away on BBC 2 Wales (no offence intended), only noticed it because BRJ mentioned it. Should put stuff like this on main BBC2 - although Welsh focused, Shah and BRJ some of the best British performers/artists out there, would have been nice for them to get extra exposure! Also looks a nice little festival! Edited December 22, 2024 by Salopian
Stillill42
Happy new year to you and yours, folks. Here's to a great year of gigs and a bumper announcement in March. 2

AtomsForPizza
HNY all and also looking forward to the March announcement. I wonder if they'll stick with the traditional St David's Day (1 March) announcement, given it falls on a Saturday this year. Commercial festivals that need to shift tickets typically stick to weekdays for announcements (I think). But this might not really affect Green Man given it's already sold out

Maybe with a bit of a build up with clues etc in the days before.

I wondered if they would do GM on the other forum a few years ago and was met with scorn, but I’d love to see them there. James was on the site as a punter the first or second time I went a few years ago, so I guess at least he knows where it is.!
Fish Bulb
Doves have just been announced as headliners for the Sunday of Moseley Folk which is a couple of weeks after - would they be the right size to play? Jetshymotion
Khruangbin tour sets them up pretty well, non? 14th, 16th, 17th all free. London on the 15th, and free either side (Helsinki 10th Aug, Cologne 19th). Only other UK date is Halifax (24th). Known to the festival, but about the right amount of time since they were last here, I think? Headlining, I assume, if so.

Expand I seem to post this every year, but a band that believe they can headline their own 25,000 capacity London show are not playing a 15,000 capacity festival in Wales. Big Thief were top of the Green Man line-up last year and a day later were support at a Gunnersbury Park gig.

Expand Well it's generally reported as a 25,000 capacity festival - although I accept there wouldn't be 25,000 on the hill all at once. They're hardly incomparable slots, though! Clearly Khruangbin might not play, but I don't think any artist applies a bright line that way in any event. Sure, their average crowd size is likely to be broadly similar across a period of time, but they're always going to play some shows that are bigger / smaller than others, for any number of reasons - diary fit, dollar, vibe, profile, connections.... It's like saying Big Thief were never going to play Cardiff Uni last year on the basis they were headlining a 15k / 25k festival. But lo...
zahidf
I think TV on the radio are more likely to play, but Khrugabin isnt totally out of the question. Would be the 'big' headliner though.

Expand No, sorry, you're right about the capacity, I was thinking of End Of The Road, which has had the same "surely Boygenius/PJ Harvey are headlining" over the last couple of years. But I do think if a band's booking agent thinks they're big enough to play an equally big show in London that as it's London would be treated as higher profile I can't see them also taking the natural restrictions of a festival that is no bigger. casparm
Any thoughts on Maribou State making a return? Expand Self Esteem headlined GM in 23. She headlines EOTR in 25. She's certainly no smaller than she was in 23. Its simply never as simple as saying X is playing Y therefore they cannot possibly play Z. Khruangbin heading an already sold out GM25 makes sense for a variety of reasons. Crossover with a 25k festival in London at the height of summer would be minimal. As it would be with a show in Halifax to 6k (as already mentioned, still not sold out). It would be a coup given their recent ascension , but it's absolutely within the realm of possibility.
