glasto isnt for profit so they could literally never afford to do such a thing.

You don't think they could find a sponsor for the newer bands to cover a 1500 or so tickets so bands who are busting their balls to make it in the industry can afford to play? We aren't even talking about big numbers here in the grand scale of the festival

No they don't hence the petition. Glastonbury could totally make it happen, it would just mean trimming down on the amount of freebies and +1s they give to the bigger acts and to the fawning media they get in to cover the festival.

It would mean trimming down the number of stages too.

I'm not sure how motivated the festival would be to do that, considering the many bands that play the festival in the current system. I'd understand if the festival started struggling to fill slots on stages, then that'd be a clear indicator that they'd have to do things differently, but they haven't got that problem. It's a supply and demand thing, really.

Did I say 12? I meant 24 hours! And it facilitates entertainment. The people who set up the Pyramid Stage aren't entertaining anyone, but they're certainly necessary.

I was about to go full "Four Yorkshiremen" on you.

12 hours! 12 hours! Pah, in my day we did 24. And we were grateful!

Help me here with values and to avoid cries of hypocrisy.

On the one hand we have a festival that embraces socialist values, and yet when it comes to money and paying people for work we go all supply and demand.

If the small musicians were in one big union what festival would we have?

I'm so confused and would appreciate some clear thinking on this.

(Also, I thought musicians did get tix, and decided whether to sell or stay - that was from a conversation I had with a band a few years ago)

Over 20,000 people work for their ticket so that the show can happen, across many sectors.   Musicians, DJ's, Stewards, doctors, decorators, constructors, children's performers, bin painters, paramedics, lock up staff, welfare, social workers, green fields team and so on.

I'm not sure why small aspiring musicians or bands should be treated differently to the rest of the volunteers - it's a take it or leave it situation.

The problem is, I feel that for every band who won't/can't pay for a ticket, there will be 5 more who would jump at the chance if it means that not only do they get to go to Glastonbury, they get to say they played a it!

The way we consume music has changed and I do not doubt for a second it's much harder to get your foot in the door as a new artist these days. However, what Glastonbury is doing is obviously working for them as is.

Agreed. I do twelve hours for my ticket. I wouldn't want to see a band do half an hour of what they love doing anyway and get a free Glastonbury ticket for it. That doesn't seem right considering all the grafters that make the event possible.

Imagine thinking 12 hours is ‘graft’😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
