SticklinchJoe
I haven't been keeping up with all the goings-on in relation to this other than the first date got cancelled, and now it's scheduled for this weekend on Netflix. Tell me, could we see Tyson die here? I'm genuinely concerned for him, and I don't know how this event got the green light. I remember watching his fight against Kevin McBride and surmising he was too old, past it, and needed to stop boxing immediately...that was twenty years ago! It would be amazing if Mike caught him and knocked him out. But other than that, my main hope is that one of them pulls out of the fight at the last minute. Thoughts?? Have you seen Tyson training for this? I think he's the least likely person in the ring to die. In all seriousness although I hate these exhibition 'fights for likes' and I feel they are disrespectful to genuine fighters that work hard to make a career it will still be interesting to see if Tyson takes it seriously. I'm sure they will want to put on a good show and it could well be agreed between them to stretch it out for the distance but this is the guy that bit somebody's ear off and it wouldn't surprise me if Tyson knocked Paul out in the first 2 rounds. I know there's a huge age difference but I imagine they are a class apart in skill and feel there is a very real danger Paul could get seriously hurt. It's only a matter of time before one of these youtubers is injured badly.

Out of interest I skipped through some of the accompanying Netflix documentary, which shows some of the training. I thought Tyson looked in good shape (for a 60 year old), but I didn't see anything where I thought he had any business getting back in the ring. I feel like I shouldn't watch the fight, to be honest, but I probably will just in case Tyson manages to catch him. I also heard somewhere that it will be 2-minute rounds, and the gloves will be bigger than usual pro boxing fights. Don't know how true that is. He might be 60 years old but he’s in good shape and I still wouldn’t like to be on the end of one of his punches! You have to remember though it’s billed as an exhibition fight so it’s anybody’s guess what has been agreed by the two camps. You're correct on the round lengths. It’s 8 x 2 minute rounds. I won’t be watching live myself, I’ll read the reviews the following morning and if it sounds like it was actually a fight I’ll probably watch it at some stage afterwards. He'd beat me up, that's for sure. I don't like his chances against a 27-year-old with boxing fundamentals, who trains seriously though. Hopefully I'm wrong. Although, Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist, which is easy to forget. So he probably deserves a beating.
MilkyJoe
Well that seemed to be the anticlimax that was expected by many. Thoroughly insulting to the professional fighters on the undercard when the main event is between a youtuber and a 58 year old retired fighter. Surely time to outlaw this rubbish from professional boxing.

The thing that struck me most was the bias of the commentary and refereeing in the women's fight. They were heaping praise on Amanda (sorry, I forget her last name), giving her rounds she has no business winning, and the referee seemed to take a point from Kate Taylor for no reason. I was certain they'd give it to Amanda to set up a rubber match but thankfully the judges got it right (a rarity!). It seemed to me that Amanda was wild and was hitting Taylor's gloves a lot, while Katie Taylor was making angles and connecting with clean, damaging punches. I haven't gauged the reaction of the internet, but I thought Katie Taylor won by a good 4 rounds.

I didn't watch either fight so definitely can't comment on the Taylor v Serrano bout but there seems to be a lot of controversy around the result. I guess with all 3 judges giving it to Taylor though they obviously thought she did enough to win even with a point deducted. Will look forward to watching this one at some stage and there will absolutely be a third fight between this pair.

The only way they will stop if people stop attending/watching these events. I guess it’s up to boxing to take the hype and create their own worldwide stars. It feels boxing is currently in need of a huge mainstream star.

Paul got 30 million! Go figure. I'm not saying there's not a market for these events. There clearly is but stop sanctioning them as professional fights when it's an exhibition at best. Should have been a night with other exhibitions or at best, first on the card.

SticklinchJoe Posted yesterday at 03:18 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:18 AM Jake Paul has admitted carrying Tyson to the final bell (which was obvious anyway). Carnival stuff.
Comfy Bean
Watched the “highlights”. Rubbish but if folk are daft enough to pay then this type of “fight” will continue to chase the money. Netflix rumoured to be looking to stream other sports and there platform couldn’t handle it. Lots of buffering issues for folk apparently. Carnival stuff. Very obvious. Not going to lie, I was a bit of Jake Paul hater going into the fight, but I actually gained a lot of respect for him. The way he handled the fight on the night, the respect he showed Tyson during and after the fight, and the self restraint he exhibited to keep Tyson safe in the closing rounds. 8 minutes ago, Comfy Bean said: Watched the “highlights”. They are streaming more sports already, there's an NFL game or games, on Christmas Day of all days!
