This is only my second time, but my main advice is to pack light. The walk from the entrance to a place to pitch your tent can get very long if you carry a lot of stuff and it keeps raining. I fell in the mud twice in 2016 lmao

Other than that, do whatever feels good. The festival is immense, so be prepared to miss a lot of stuff you'd normally want to see and still have a great time. During my first Glastonbury (2011) we tried to see as many acts, stages and areas as possible, which was absolutely great, but it's not for everyone.

 

(12 years later, one of my highlights of the 2023 edition was spending more than an hour at the BBC Natural History Unit tent to listen how they filmed Planet Earth 3, so I have to admit, I've changed 😛 )

Make sure you have a decent tent. We upgraded this year and I got so much more out of the festival being able to sleep well each night.

Bar crawl on Wednesday, explore the site and finish up at the Glastonbury sign. 
enjoy all the build up, the rumours, the planning and preparing, it’s all part of the fun and the festival goes by in the blink of an eye so best to make sure you savour all the excitement in the build up

Don’t over-schedule. You won’t make it to 60% of the sets. Leave time for the random “ooooh, they sound good!”, on a tiny stage tucked away.  Go and pay homage to the stone dragon. Visit Green Fields and Strummerville. It’s the old Glasto traveller crew and the vibe is still there (just). Grab a Burrow Hill from the cider bus and a Fajita from Tor Rugby Club. Dance with people at every opportunity. Enjoy. X

got a 6 man we usually take to other festivals, think we gonna swap it out for something smaller just for the long journey down, still be taking something comfortable enough though hopefully.

 

A bar crawl across to the sign sounds like a definite plan for the Wednesday

Will have a look at those, some were already on my list but will turn up to the rest without expectations.

 

in a pretty spontaneous group luckily so hopefully get the chance to discover some hidden gems

Strummerville on Thursday evening (or any other time) is great. Chilled, a huge camp fire (whether you need it or not), sofas, chatting to random strangers, beer, all brilliant.

If there are a couple of acts you want to see at opposite ends of the site, and less than an hour between set times, pick one and don't worry about the other. One of my rookie errors in 2007 was trying to traverse the site too quickly. On the flipside, start walking to your must-see act way before you think you need to, so you can lap up the atmosphere and take the inevitable detours along the way.
