How I would fix the ticket system

Not sure that maths stacks up. It's probability and bias. It was a long time ago but think I remember that probability is a,weird thing.

Having two lottery tickets for example doesn't double your chances of winning.

Each one is still 1 in 50million or whatever- it seems it should follow that 2 would bring the odds down to 1 in 25millikn but it doesn't.

What.

it's not that complex though is it?

or the contacts in the “Glastonbury club” to be in the know how to beat the system.

you're on a forum where a thread is dedicated to the exact purpose of increasing your chances of tickets

Overall, all your suggestions cost time and money which the festival probs cba spending.

It's something about first number Is 1 in 50 chance- 2nd number is 1 in 49 chance etc all the way down to  6th number is one in 44 chance to get the odds whixh work out something  million to one.

If you get another ticket it's the same odds minus the infinitely small chance of the first ticket being the winner.

Sure there's a better way of explaining it

Financially better off people would be able to either just use savings or load up credit cards whilst worse off people wouldn't

This would also skew the audience age higher too

Awful idea

Organised groups would also be completely fine with this change whereas newbies would struggle to get their group to have £2k+ in one account (£3k+ for coach).

So many issues with this

Can counter that quite easily.

Save up £400 (or whatever the total cost is) over the course of a year and with your trusted friends put the total amount in a Monzo account ready for ticket day - if no dice with tickets then the money get distributed back out to each person.

Its a festival not a regular savings account!

huh?

How on earth do you pay for your balance in April then?

theres a difference between paying individual balances of 325 quid in april and having £2400 in a monzo in one person's name which would then cause issues at payment if 6 people would all need to use that one account come payment

Nearly, but not quite…. Your first paragraph would lead to ticket certainty with 50  numbers.

Using a dice analogy…. the possibility of throwing a 6 if you throw 6 dice….. isn’t, understandably, 100%. The expected outcome is 1 x 6, but the probability is 1 -(5/6) to the power of 6, I.e 0.6651, or roughly 66%.

sorry you've lost me.

surely if one person gets through its the full payment in one hit.

why would 6 people need to get through/use the account?

6 people would potentially get through? You don't just have one person trying to get through and buy tickets, do you?

You are saying people should save up £2.5k with their mates over a year and then put it in one account (also lead booker / billing name issues surely) to then pay for a festival ticket

Its a bit much isn't it !

Expecting people to have 2.5k at once is not exactly accessible! The deposit system works well there's no reason to change it

if one person gets through then they all have the card details.

and given the way the new format is i doubt 2 people would get through at the same time let alone 6.

There's nothing wrong with the deposit system, don't see why they'd fix something that isn't broken

yeah, the deposit system about the one thing with the current system that I believe works pretty well and is fair. Is set at a high enough level that losing your deposit is something you won’t let happen lightly, but it also means that you can still feel comfortable applying for tickets this far out, presumably gives Glastonbury some much needed cash flow, and also stops them having to take nearly £400 of people before a line up is even announced.

To bring this back to the ticket process…,, if you were to assume for arguments sake the probability of any queue ID getting a ticket was 1 in 6, if you have 6 queue ID’s rather than 1, your chances increase from 1 in 6 to 2 in 3.

Seems to be getting some stick but I think there’s something in this. Registration serves as a log in and preregistration of your group so you can only get those you’ve signed up. There’s a similar system in place for buying tickets with my football team and it works ok.

I suppose 2 issues, people will game it with multiple registrations, but there are ways around this and it doesn’t need to be any more invasive to personal privacy, we already submit photos of ourselves and this could be used as part of the approval process.
and I guess it makes it a ballot in all but name, but I’ve always felt they could give the “super keeners” a better chance by announcing details quietly, away from social media and do the sales at short notice. But there is obvs issues with this also.

In addition to tech adjustments to stop people gaming the system with multiple devices I'd favour:-

1 .  All prospective individual purchasers and groups to be declared with a nominated lead booker prior to the sale.

2. Membership of multiple groups by registrants rendered as impossible as can be .

3. Only the lead booker able to purchase tickets for the group.

4. All prospective single purchasers and groups to be issued with a unique log on code to enable them to join the queue

5. Disqualify successful ticket holders from the next festival.

Point 5 may be controversial but 1 - 4 would greatly reduce gaming the system.

When I buy away tickets for Arsenal, you first log in as you with your reg number, then you select your amount of  tickets, then you add the other reg numbers for the amount of tickets you want, then you checkout.  Its quite simple.

Whether GFL/See would want to implement a system where if person x gets through then the additional 5 people are already pre determined I'm not sure?

Removing deposits will only benefit regulars / organised people.

I would love it but there's clear issues as said.

It will impact diversity, skew the festival older among other things.

Its unreasonable to expect people to save up that much money for the deposit overtime I think. If they want to remove deposits they should add Klarna I think (which is also silly).

EDIT: tl;dr really is theres far better ways than removing deposits to crack down if they wanted to, but they cleared aren't that bothered
