Thought this article reflected the struggle of many uk fests quite well - especially those with limited camping space like Glasto

Ah, the great beach land grab.  In the 70s and 80s it was ze germans getting their towels on sun loungers in pre-dawn raids, now it's the humble gazebo under fire.

 

The same thing is apparent at popular UK beaches, with families creating little personal compounds from wind breaks, gazebos and clusters of chairs, blankets and industrial sized coolboxes.

 

I'm actually not against the use of gazebos at festivals, never used one myself but pitched correctly I think that a group camping together can make use of one without actually using more space than a group of tents with some open central space between them.  The Pyramid palace and other megatent regulars at glastonbury never bothered me in the slightest, and there's something about seeing the way that some groups organise their space with the use of bins, tarp and gazebo to build a comfy little home from home for a few days that I consider interesting social behaviour.

I reckon they've got better over the years to be honest.  It's got to be 5 years since the last time someone was foolish enough to remonstrate with me over a boot on their blanket.

 

It's the people who build a f**king wall of chairs, decorated pushchairs and bins along the path at the top of the pyramid field that bugs me.  Most of the time I'm coming into the field from the direction of Woodsies, so naturally a nice walk into the field from the back to find a spot I'm happy with is always welcome.  Come headliner time you have to navigate these 20 foot long barricades and they add to crowd crust worse than anything else I reckon.

I just mark my territory with urine, the good old fashioned way.

Why does it always come down to urine with you people?  From travel johns to lenor bottles, marking territory to apparently it being a solution to ward off bad weather.  Glastonbury and piss, name a more iconic pair.

gazebos light hearted .... come on 🙂 ... actually its no bother to me but my tent size has gone up so I cant really say it is

That's probably more's the point than gazebos these days. Tents definitely have a larger footprint than they used to!

gazebos dont really exist ... but the ready made camping does and continues to expand ... although obviously much of it is off site
