Well I've finally finished Atlas Shrugged, its a bit long winded and I dont really agree with the philosiphy of the book but it's well worth a read

Also if anyone cna provide me with some new titles to invest in? Im after something abit political and something abit lord of the flies maybe?

I happened across the Time Top 100 book list here a week or so ago and it inspired me to read lots of books I've been meaning to read for ages. There's only 4 or 5 on that list that I've read.

So I've popped to my local 2nd hand bookshop, traded in a few, paid £7 and picked up:

Catch 22 - Joseph Heller

1984 - George Orwell

Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro

plus a Terry Pratchett book!

I want to work my way through that list (along with Ulysses by James Joyce, some of the stuff by Homer and DOn Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes)

Just finished reading the 19th Wife by David Ebershoff, really enjoyed it. The book is set both the 19th Century and the modern day, with the two stories of Ann Eliza Young, 19th Wife of Brigham Young and Jordon a boy who has been ejected from Mormon sect running cocurrently.

My Booky Wook by Russell Brand - his life so far, I loved it and thought it was funny and sad and also had some "wtf?" moments in it.

I like Russell Brand though - if you think he's a nob like a lot of people do, you might not like it. But then again you might be surprised.

I just got but haven't read yet "Tick Bite Fever" by David Bennun about growing up in Africa.

With the encouragement of a drunken Scotsman in a truck at a festival, I have decided to have a go at writing. Mainly drawing on my diaries and some of my observations through the years. Badgers will rate highly in the book I fear :P However after advice I think I need to do a course in creative writing to help me get some structure to my writing.

Should have started a new thread really

I've been reading The Stand by Stephen King for a while now... it is 1400 odd pages and small print and I was IN LOVE with it and the characters in it - SK is my favourite writer - he may be popcorn but his characters are always so real (the ones that aren't demons and such!)

Was getting into the last 200 pages but decided to slow down for my flight to england today - had a real facepalm moment when I realised I'd left it on the desk in my house... d'oh! Going to be trawling the charity shops tomorrow...

Would recommend it though for anyone wanting an epic read!

I might give that a go - the only SK book I have read is Rose Madder and I thought it was mediocre - but it was years ago, and I can still remember the bit where one of the characters gets hung off a door knob by her eye socket. So I guess he must be doing something right!

What other SK would you recommend, (not Cujo though)?
