Flag number 2 (of 2 - don't worry, I'm not going to keep churning out the buggers) has just been completed. I got some iron-on printer paper and, after an hour and a half's ironing, I present my version of Something Awful's 'awesome' emote:

It didn't come out 100% perfect - not all the sheets lined up perfectly, some of the ink looks like it could peel and some has gone blotchy - but I'll just have to see how she flies. Oh yeah, and I wish I'd remembered to mirror it :).

Halvin, did you get your flag from Skyblue? Is it made of a nylon type material? I'm thinking of using this transfer paper stuff, but everything I've seen has said it must be at least 50% cotton. My flags nylon, so I don't wanna waist 15quid on all this paper, and then ruin the flag as well! Did you get special paper for nylon, or just wing it with the normal stuff?

Cheers.

Yes, it's a SkyBlue nylon flag with normal iron-on paper. There's a link further back in this thread to a page about using the iron-on paper with nylon kites which recommended using the wool setting on your iron as the nylon's not as absorbent as cotton. That's what I did and it turned out okay, although I turned the heat up slightly towards the end, which made the ink flow too much and it went blotchy. Be careful about what you place under the flag - some of the ink will flow through onto your base material. Make sure you go around all the edges properly and remember to allow the paper to cool before peeling off the backing.

I have my trusty permanent marker pens ready for an uber re-touch of my old flags and taking a bottle of nail varnish remover to the Uber Yellow one to try and remove stains and negative impressions from the writing due to bad storage.

Reckon I am gonna give Stab's decorated space blanket idea a go too.

Finally I'm ready to unveil our flags for this year. Gone for a pole for the first time, having usually gone for two sets of tents poles in a banner style. Main flag - Spurs manager Martin Jol smoking a fat one - is five metres, yellow flag is four metres. What do you think?
