Good post Peevis. I generally agree with most of that. Except perhaps the last two lines <_<

I did think though we were already getting to a consensus on why exclusivity is so prized, and indeed why many cannot get over those reactions. Still, better a late contribution than none, sir! :D

Disagree. We're conscious and transitory creatures and there is no God overlooking what we do. So what you are saying here has no basis.

Evolution is subject (secondary) to our conscious knowledge and action. It does not pre-empt it, especially not in philosophical narratives

No. It says one of two things. Firstly, that you are confident that in their freedom your spouse as well as yourself will not be lured by the intentions of another. And secondly, that you are not insecure.

It could also mean that you or the other person doesn't care and/or will cheat, but there's the test of your insecurity right there.

Oh, you mean the new God? Science, I think they call it.

We had to learn what chemical reactions were before we could apply them to the narrative of life, the universe and everything. And now that we have learned them, we can defy them.

This behaviour is cultural. All behaviour comes from what is learned, which shapes our will in a certain direction. You can't pre-empt the future. You are putting effect before cause. For example, what I think 'is good for the species' is not what you think is good for the species. You can however, determine the future through the choices you take now on the basis of what you understand and will forth.

Those that conform to such behaviours are following social norms like sheep. Will overides all behaviour. Weak will and you will go with the flow. That's not natural, it's cultural. You are observing the effects, not the causes.

Responding differently to the stimulus. Taking pills to negate their trends. Counselling. Being aware and adapting different cognitive strategies. Regulating schemes of behaviour so that the stimuli never comes about. Removing the parts of the body that excite certain chemicals.

We've been doing it for centuries. It comes with being conscious beings. I doubt you'll get a Phd like.

Ahh bless the less attractive friend, I wanted to pull the one with big hair, but turns out she has a boyf, who rudely showed his face tonight.

So turned my attention to the less complicated [translate: easier] girl of the group and had a friggin' awesome time. She was a good kisser like drunk me so I like her listen to this

Naturally. But the concept of a body, our selves and our limitations are all cultural. Hence, conscious thought.

The only point was that a stimulus (chemical reaction) does not dictate a specific behaviour.

Everything you say here is subject to consciousness and not evolution. It's not ironic at all. No more ironic than saying that I existed yesterday. We didn't exist until we had sentience. It's what we are.

There is no overcoming evolution. We made the concept up. All that exists is what we do and no doubt the consequences of those actions. The past simply leaves behind an immeasurable story that changes from day to day.
