Rufus Gwertigan
i've been offered a job in glasgow sherrif court. working in cases just doing stuff like calling the people into the courtroom and admin work like doing some reports and stuff. i really want the job. but it's only temporary. my pal who works in the court says temporary jobs always become permanent but i feel like it would be so daft to leave my job for another job which may not become permanent, and i could end up with no job. i'm going to have to turn it down. but i'll still be on the reserve list for a permanent job and turning down the temp job won't affect my place on the list, so i suppose there is still hope. gutted at having to turn it down though. especially since i hate my job and the company i work for right now, and i'm desperate to leave. rachbon
I can see it makes sense, but are you sure? I don't know how long it would be temp for, but if I was unhappy and it was for over 6 months I think I would take it, and keep my eye open for other jobs along the way. But I suppose I am abit impulsive, but I have simple needs, and I don't see the point in doing something I hate. A real bummer though I bet Edited January 26, 2009 by _rachelbon
Rufus Gwertigan
i'm moving out of my parents house into my own place with my boyfriend next week so i feel like this is just the worst time to take on a temporary position. i did consider taking it and keep looking for a permanent job, but there's hardly any jobs out there the now and i don't want to end up with no job. if i wasn't moving out i would have took the job. but i need to do the sensible thing now. rachbon
You're moving in with your boyfriend and still going to work? Who's going to do the cleaning and cook his tea No it is the sensible thing to do, but I think I still would take the risk and take the job. But I have no sense
TalkShow Bob
Take the tempory position. Once your inside an organisation, espeshaly one as big as the court system, even if your position is only temporary and they dont renew your contract you will be able to slip your way into another job in the court! treacle
I've got to say that I think I would take it too. Your option of staying on part time at your current job would be a good option. You'll see your boyfriend every night once you're living with him. It is much easier to get a permanent job when you are already employed on a temporary basis. If you turn this down and they give it to someone else then surely that puts them in the best position when a permanent job becomes available. Playing it safe is not always the best thing to do! krisskross
Ressurect a thread. Apparently I laughed / giggled too much in my interview today... So i wouldnt be good on the phone dealing with pissed of people. What? *i do tend to laugh when nervous - so in an interview i'm bricking it and make jokes. Is it really that bad? Rufus Gwertigan
I was offered an interview today but it is the same week as the Manc meet, and I am in court over the seeing more of my kids the next day. Talk about pressure. It's not a perfect job for me but it is something I am good at, and the hours and conditions are good. Do it for a couple of years and move on if I pull this out of the bag. For the first time in a hell of a long while I have been looking for well/high paid work, even though I don't really want the responsibility, but needs must at the moment. Rufus Gwertigan
Had my interview earlier, and as usual I let my mouth run off with its big self. But sometimes I can't help it. Q. As an advisor what do you think a claimant wants from you? A. Firstly for me not to call him a dole scrounger? Can't these people see I can't help it?? Millsy2008
got a long-leet interview in 2 weeks for business manager for a secondary school wondered what a long leet interview was until i read the whole letter and discovered it said short leet interviews would be held few weeks after if successful at long leet!!! presentation required on 'what skills do you have to achieve the priorities of the job' 10 minutes long, they turned a classic interview question into a presenation!!!!! god knows what the presentation will be if i get thru to final stage

When you put Long leet, the first thing I thought was "How odd an interview at a safari park" Longleat is a safari park for folk that don't realise

Well what skills do I need to perform this job? I see it in way to been akin to a Park Warden at Longleat Safari Park. Glitter+Vodka
I have my interview for promotion this afternoon and im pureeee nervous as hell I cant decide if its better or worse that my interviewers are already my managers. If you say something stupid at a regular interview, if u dont get the job u dont have to see them again! There are 3 external and 3 internal candidates for the job. Not getting my hopes up too much as I think one of the internal candidates is better than me, and obviously I know nothing about the externals. bunique
I have an interview on Wednesday and despite clearly being qualified enough to be shortlisted, I have absolutely no understanding of what the job actually entails! The spec is so vague I'm struggling to think of things they might ask me Grr.
