I would go for it! You never know. They may well prefer someone with 100% match to the experience but that's not to say that they'll find someone.

Were some of the other people you worked with/supported women? A substance misuser sounds like a vulnerable person to me. I guess you take your experience and show how you would use it in the new role. It's all about building on the skills and experience you already have.

Sounds like a great job though!

thats what i was thinking. my experience mostly relates to negotiating with partner agencies around services that could be offered to vulnerable people this included complex needs, drug users, prostitutes, criminals etc etc. i have been involved in groups of supported women as part of engagement and public involvement processes.

This job is a partnership coordinator so you wouldnt be directly working with those vulnerable groups but a strategic planning level with other services, organising groups for women to attend, community safety initiatives, co-ordinate an outreach team creating networks, developing strategies budget management that type of thing

think i might just go for it nothing to lose

Now that I've told everyone that I really need to tell in real life, I can make a comment in this thread.

I went for a job interview, for the first time in nearly 14 years, back in October. It was to do exactly what I do now, a sideways step job wise, but a massive step for me in my personal life as it was to enable me to move from one end of the country to another, to start a new life, with the wonderful Rabid.

I was stunned to get an interview & a bit flustered when I saw I had to write an essay & send it in before my interview, but I wanted the job so much I just managed to do it really easily.

I prepared as much as I possibly could for the interview & even a 2 hour delay on the flight up there didn't scupper me ( I had a festival wash in the airport loo rather than a nice shower at Rabid's!!) & the interview was almost enjoyable!

I must thank everyone on this thread as I gleaned loads of hints & tips for the whole ordeal.

As you may guess I got the job & now I'm just waiting for all the slow NHS shaped hoops to be jumped through before I can start. :);):P:):):):)

Thats fantastic! Well done you! ;) Here's hoping the NHS gets a move on with the paperwork!

Your days of travelling for hours to see him are nearly over! I'm off to Oban to stay with Wullie for the weekend. On Fridays it's a 5 hour journey straight from work :) Will be worth it though as we're going out for a meal for our "first anniversary" on Saturday :P

i had an interview for an admin job at glasgow sheriff court today. i answered all the questions but i feel like i didn't give specific enough examples and i'd wanted to sell myself more, but i didn't say half the things i should have. i was so prepared aswell, i don't know what happened. i really want the job.

does anyone think its worth going for a job that i don't fulfil all of the essential criteria. i found a job as a partnership co-ordinator for tackling issues for vulnerable women, the criteria states among other things, experience of working with vulnerable woman i.e. prostiutes/domestic abuse victims etc, i don't have this as such but have experience of partnership working to support substance misuse users, child protection issues i.e. developing protocols for unborn babies at risk, drug using parents and vulberable adults etc etc and mental health patients this type of thing,

im not really sure how closely you have to match the essential criteria, i would gauge i match about 85% of it, dunno if it worth the hassel of completing an application would love to do the job tho.

I applied for a job with Birmingham City Council at the begining of September and heard nothing on a whim I called them late november to ask if the post had been filled and they said that they had 350 applicants for the job and were still short listing :) but they would give me a call. They rang yesterday to say that I had made it thru to interview stage with 4 others  interview is next tuesday I am really nervous now.

Millsy - Check out their website to see if that can help you with the questions, i googled the question 2 and found a presentation so try that as well they might not be excatly what you are looking for but might lead you in the right direction. Good luck

Then there's the Occupational Health check - blood tests, piss tests, personal questions, questionaires which need to be completed by your GP (god forbid you've got the audacity to be human and tick 'yes' to anything on your medical history, I had 3 return visits for more assesments over 1 ticked box).

When you're actually in there it's not a bad place to work :)

I had to tell them about my whiplash & although the Head of department knew all about it & was more than happy to employ me, Occy Health wanted my insurance medical reports, which I thought would take weeks to get & send. But, for once I'm a fan of technology, as I managed to get the solicitor to email me said report so I could email it to Occy Health. So hopefully that should shorten the process a bit.

As for the CRB check, that should now be underway ( after the first set of forms/ID checks got lost...i.e. passport, birth certificate, driving licence, you know little things like that  ), a mere 7 weeks after interview.

That's why it takes so long to get an NHS job underway.
