are you a girl or something?

No, but again, I don't see the relevance. Bob Dylan fans are not entirely made up of anyone type of person. His appeal is fairly universal. Y'know, people who like music that's written from the heart, and not from the wallet, music which is challenging and makes you think and not just the sort of thing they pipe over in M&S.

When I read that, the first thing I thought about was

Nothing to see here - move along

I don't know how you managed to do that. I tried very - very - hard to ensure that was no mention of the one-dimensional sacchrine pap that Ampersand listens to got an airing in this thread. And what do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO!!!!!

I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it.

I apologise wholeheartedly for ruining the Bob thread. Quickly - post something cool about Bob whilst I remove the evidence of my betrayal.....

Great Playboy interview from 1966 with His Bobness.

PLAYBOY: Mistake or not, what made you decide to go the rock-'n'-roll route?

DYLAN: Carelessness. I lost my one true love. I started drinking. The first thing I know, I'm in a card game. Then I'm in a crap game. I wake up in a pool hall. Then this big Mexican lady drags me off the table, takes me to Philadelphia. She leaves me alone in her house, and it burns down. I wind up in Phoenix. I get a job as a Chinaman. I start working in a dime store, and move in with a 13-year-old girl. Then this big Mexican lady from Philadelphia comes in and burns the house down. I go down to Dallas. I get a job as a "before" in a Charles Atlas "before and after" ad. I move in with a delivery boy who can cook fantastic chili and hot dogs. Then this 13-year-old girl from Phoenix comes and burns the house down. The delivery boy - he ain't so mild: He gives her the knife, and the next thing I know I'm in Omaha. It's so cold there, by this time I'm robbing my own bicycles and frying my own fish. I stumble onto some luck and get a job as a carburetor out at the hot-rod races every Thursday night. I move in with a high school teacher who also does a little plumbing on the side, who ain't much to look at, but who's built a special kind of refrigerator that can turn newspaper into lettuce. Everything's going good until that delivery boy shows up and tries to knife me. Needless to say, he burned the house down, and I hit the road. The first guy that picked me up asked me if I wanted to be a star. What could I say?

PLAYBOY: And that's how you became a rock-'n'-roll singer?

DYLAN: No, that's how I got tuberculosis.

Happy 70th Birthday Bob!

Did anyone see The Ballad of A.J. Weberman on Beeb 4 at the weekend? Very funny/scary/sad. A former yippie and full time "Dylanologist", total obsessive, used to root through his bins, record phone calls with Dylan etc. Worth a watch.

I decided today that my favourite album by Dylan isBlood On The Tracks. There is so many albums that are amazing of his but I was listening to it today and I thought to myself 'This Is Genius!'.

What's everyone else's thoughts.

Dont know if I have a favourite. Listened to Highway 61 during the week. Incredible stuff. I could narrow it down to three albums at a push maybe.

Speaking of Blood on the Tracks, have you heard Blood on the Tapes? Its the album, bootlegged, with all original versions of the songs on it that he recorded in New York. He wasn't happy with them so went back and rerecorded them. A couple of them are as good/better as the finished album.

Check this out

Tickets for Dylan and knopfler are 100 quid. Meh.

Nal, I've only heard the original tracks that were on Bootleg Series 1-3 from those sessions. I like Blood on the Tracks, but I prefer a significant number of other albums by him, including from the 70s, Planet Waves and Desire.

Check out Blood on the Tapes if you get a chance, interesting stuff.
