WOMAD have announced details of their Eden Sessions, being held at the Eden Project in Cornwall on 22nd August.
Music on a specially constructed Lake Stage will be from the Afro Celts - touring for the first time this summer as a fully live band - and from Mexico's Los De Abajo, who won the 'BBC Radio 3 World Music Award' for 'Best Latin Artist'.
The evening will also feature performances within the huge and specially-lit structures of the Humid Tropical and Warm Temperate biomes, with Zimbabwe's Chartwell Dutiro and the remarkable South African xhosa singer, Madosini in a collaborative appearance together with UK singer-songwriter Patrick Duff.
A special feature of the evening will also be a massive night-time drum event inside the vast Humid Tropical Biome hosted by the wonderful Dhol Foundation.
The night will also offer the 'Small World Asia' sounds of DJ Pathaan and a late night DJ session from the sensational DJ Desperado.
The Eden Project's creative director Peter Hampel said "All of the artists appearing at the Eden Sessions understand and support the Project's mission to create an understanding of how we depend upon plants and to show how each of us can make a positive contribution to the planet's future. We're trying to reach out and get our message across to as many people as possible and the Sessions allow us to reach a large number of people who haven't yet had a chance to see what we are about."
The WOMAD organisation, established in 1981 (and having got past a rather financially disasterous start), has now produced over 120 music festivals in 23 countries and aims to offer audiences an insight into cultures other than their own through the enjoyment of music. Proceeds from the Eden Sessions go towards the Eden Trust to support artists from developing countries, so there's great synergy between WOMAD and the Eden Project.
Tickets are on sale priced at £27.50 (£15 for children). Click on the link to the left to buy online.
Please note there will be NO accommodation available for members of the public at Eden itself and overnight camping/parking will NOT be permitted on any part of the Eden site for any of the Eden Sessions. Please call the local Tourist Office (01726 879500) for details of accommodation available in the area.
