Tribal Gathering - the Warehouse Party II 2004

Saturday 1st May 2004
CANCELLED, England
CANCELLED
Daily capacity: 4,000

Tribal Gathering's Warehouse Party on the 1st May has had to be cancelled. The statement from the organisers is given in full below:

Due to circumstances beyond the organisers control, we must announce that the May 1st Tribal Gathering Warehouse Party is now not going to take place. While preparations for the event have been going well, certain factors now make this party completely impossible.

When Tribal Gathering found the venue for May 1st, they thought that they would be granted a licence for the same number of people as last year's warehouse party (10,000 people). This was not the case, and the provisional licence came back from the relevant authorities as only being licensed for 7,000 people. The authorities were totally supportive of the event and the organisers fully appreciate that but it was not meant to be. Safety has to come first and the warehouse could simply not have enough exits installed to meet the required 10,000 capacity to make this event happen... Now we can see why TG were the first people to put on a warehouse party last year for the first time in over ten years! Even if the event were to completely sell out, as it almost certainly would have done, a huge amount of money would be lost.

We are of course very aware that this will come as a disappointment to everyone who has already gone out and bought tickets for the event, all the people who have supported the event at press and radio and also to everyone who was involved in putting this event together. We hope you realise that if there was any way for Tribal Gathering to move forward with May 1st, they would do so. They could have looked at cutting down the line-up and production to save some money, but then this would have resulted in a reduction of everyone's enjoyment, and that is not what Tribal Gathering are about.

It is Sankeys 10th anniversary this year, and the Tribal Sessions/Red Light posse want to make it really special. Sankeys is going to get some undivided attention – they’re going to make sure that all the stops are pulled, making Sankeys the best loved small club in the world. This will start May 1st bank holiday weekend.

Watch this space for details about future Tribal Gathering events. They will, of course be returning with some mouth watering parties in the very near future!

We'll see you all soon...

Tribal Gathering

Everyone who bought a ticket will be refunded. Please call Tribal Gathering in the office if you have any queries regarding this. Also, everyone who had already bought their ticket is invited down to Sankeys for free this Friday.

A personal statement from Tribal Gathering’s David Vincent:

"I am obviously gutted about cancelling the warehouse party. We always knew it was going to be a difficult with last year's party being so good to come and do it again this year, but that kind of drove us on! Legal warehouse parties are very hard to put on and I can see why nobody did one for over ten years in the UK, since our one last year.

We take pride in producing the best events and this warehouse party needed to be as good if not better that the last one and with the potential cutbacks etc, that could not be the case and as much as I love the party, it would have hurt me if we were forced to present the public with an inferior warehouse feeling.

We greatly appreciate the support that we have received from the industry since the cancellation and this makes us even hungrier to do another special event. We have done three large events back to back since the return of Tribal Gathering events in November 2002, so taking a year out is not such a big deal. We're already planning next years one right now, and it's going to be massive and totally original.

On a personal level I am going to take a much deserved break for a year and concentrate on finishing the Rackpack DVD this year as well as making Sankeys 10th anniversary year the best year in the clubs history and re-positioning the club as the number one small club in the world.

On a final note, I am probably most gutted that Ketaman did not get the chance to freefall onto the warehouse before the event. Sorry Mixmag, maybe next year! ;)
