The festival has, in line with its family-friendly ethos, always created an environment which looks to fully engage both youngsters and adults alike. And this year is certainly no exception, with a myriad of brand new features and old favourites, with a twist.

Amongst the new additions this year is the introduction of The Garden, a family sanctuary in the middle of the grounds, surrounded by a floral display, hosted by a giant scarecrow, and decorated with wild and fanciful creatures.

The place to go for all ages to be amused and entertained, with a giant flower regularly coming to life, a giant Mad Hatter's tea party with an interactive theatrical re-enactment of the 'Alice in Wonderland' classic involving musical chairs, musical statues, cabaret dancers, and games galore.

Activities for the younger crowd will include weird science experiments, jewellery making, giant board games, drum and music workshops, storytelling, and graffiti boards.

Another new addition for 2009 is the Silent Disco, held from 9pm each night in the eFestivals comedy tent, where punters will get a pair of headphones on entry and a choice of DJs to tune into. For an idea of what the Silent Disco is all about please read the eFestivals Silent Disco guide here.

Each evening the Phrased and Confused tent will be transformed into a wind powered film tent, The Phoenix Square Cinema Tent, which will run from 8pm to 1am each night.

Summer Sundae will also see some returning favourites, including the Phrased and Confused spoken word tent, featuring a range of new collaborations, quizzes, talks and more besides. The always popular eFestivals Comedy Tent returns for its fifth year as well, running all day until mid-evening and hosted by the Leicester Comedy Festival, and for children there's the bespoke Kidzone with an outer space theme this year.
