Summer Sundae Weekender and The Big Session will happen

Leicester's two main music festivals - the Big Session Festival and Summer Sundae Weekender will definitely take place next year after Leicester City Council and CODA (the partner organisation that has worked with the council on the festivals since their inception) reached agreement to stage both the festivals in 2010.

In a joint statement issued today, the organisations said,

"We are both determined to build on the fantastic success of these two festivals in 2009. The Big Session Festival sold out and we had our best ever attendance at Summer Sundae, showing that music fans really value and appreciate the two events."

"We cannot let them down in 2010 and we want to reassure people that both organisations are committed to working in partnership to deliver the festivals again in 2010."

"Whilst there are some further details to be worked through before a final contract is signed, we feel it is important that we dispel any doubts people may have about the future of the two events."

"2010 will be another great year for music fans in Leicester - especially at De Montfort Hall."

The statement ends speculation over fears for the two events' futures following the suspension of members of staff including De Montfort Hall boss and festival organiser Richard Haswell pending a Leicester City Council investigation into the venue.

The suspensions were 'normal procedure' in such circumstances and should definitely not be interpreted as an indication the members of staff concerned are guilty of any serious misconduct.

The Big Session Festival dates for next year have been confirmed as Friday 18th until Sunday 20th June 2010, with Early Bird tickets on sale from Monday 7th December 2009.

The dates for the tenth Summer Sundae Weekender have been confirmed as Friday 13th to Sunday 15th August 2010, with Early Bird tickets on sale from Tuesday 12th January 2010.
