BrisFest moves to Bristol's Ashton Court

This September will see a festival held on Bristol's Ashton Court Estate for the first time in five years, as BrisFest's move there has been approved by Bristol City Council.

The site was previously the home of the annual Ashton Court Festival, which started in 1974, and folded in 2007. Following the final Ashton Court Festival, the Bristol Festival Community Group came together in a bid to ensure the survival of a community festival for the city, and BrisFest has been running since 2008 at its former location on Bristol's Harbourside. BrisFest has a capacity of 20,000 and will run over two days on Saturday 23nd and Sunday 23rd September 2012.

Organiser Poppy Stephenson, of the Bristol Festival Community Group, which organises the event, said in an interview published by the BBC, (here), "We're going to give this great city a festival it can be proud of. Having started off on a smaller scale, we've built BrisFest from the ground up over the last four years. We now have the people, the resources and the systems we need to bring us home to Ashton Court, our 'spiritual home'."

An early bird 2-day ticket is priced at £31, with £1 contribution to Aston Court Estate. The tickets include a free "Swift Pass" worth £20, allowing you to queue jump on entry and at bars with special fast lane, extremely limited availability.
