Organisers of the Brisfest have announced the Bristol based event which has been held for the last two years at Ashton Court will be taking a year out next year, but is set to return to Ashton Court in 2015.

Brisfest the music and arts festival celebrated local and South West music, art, dance and food started in 2008 as the Bristol Festival before being renamed in 2010, with three days featuring a jam packed programme of music, arts, circus, theatre and comedy.

Trustees of the registered charity have been forced to cancel the not-for-profit event after they were struggling to make ends meet. During the fallow year organisers will be running both regular and sporadic fundraising events around Bristol to help raise funds to deliver the event's return to Ashton Court in 2015.

Organisers from the Bristol Festival Community Group released a statement saying, "After much consideration we have decided to take a break in 2014 in order to launch some other really exciting projects for the city. However Brisfest will be back in 2015, hopefully bigger, better and greener than ever before!

"These other projects are part of what we do behind the scenes year round that not a lot of people know about; part of our work upskilling people, providing training and helping people into work, plus supporting local artists. We'll be launching a staffing agency, band database, Festivals Centre at the bottom of Park Street plus still doing our other festival Rave on Avon... so plenty going on!

"This year off gives us the time to actually do these projects, and also raise the money needed for 2015."

The September festival attracted around 20,000 people to its 15 venues with headliners Primal Scream drawing in the biggest crowd to date at the main stage on the closing Sunday night. To see what plans organisers have for 2014 (click here).
