Combining music, comedy, art, cinema, magic, The Apple Cart is a diverse festival that welcomes everyone to it's kaleidoscopic, colourful playground, designed to bring out the kid that's hidden in us all. From the people behind Field Day and Underage festivals this festival of ideas adopts a melting pot ethos, presenting London with a multi-disciplinary take on the festival experience: no other event in the capital has Turner prize winners and world class magicians and burlesque stars sit happily alongside arena-filling comedians and established music legends all on the same bill, on the same day.
In 2012 the event will host the Art Car Boot Fair once again offering a selection of exciting art works and art wares from the boots of classic cars.
For the second year running, The Apple Cart will play host to Gavin Turk's 'The House of Fairy Tales' project, which brings the magic of the silver screen to a young audience with 'Candlelit Matinee - The House of Fairy Tales Film Theatre' - from script writing, story-building, set building, costume, special effects. There's even a chance for the audience to create and star in their very own films.
The Apple Cart will once again host a stage curated by members of the renowned magicians club The Magic Circle, who will provide a host of otherworldly entertainment and magic for kids and adults.
The acclaimed Venn Street Market, a local street market from Clapham Common, will host a whole array of delights at The Apple Cart including a Hog Roast from Clapham butcher Moen & Sons; Portena's traditional Argentine Empanadas and Chipa Cheese dough balls with Chimichurri Sauce, Yam the Cassava's authentic Creole Fish Cakes and Banana Fritters; Popina's and Sweet's freshly baked artisan sweet and savoury pastries, cakes and other treats; Vietnamese coffee from Ca Phe VN and The Coconut King will be bringing fresh coconuts to eat and drink all day long.
The event also sees the return of the Penguin Books Glade offering readings for all ages, interactive events involving ukuleles, a library and more.
There will be many more artists, magicians, cabaret performers and musicians to be announced over the coming weeks.
