The Mavericks lead the first acts announced for the 8th SummerTyne Americana Festival, an annual celebration of Americana music taking place from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st July 2013 at The Sage, Gateshead, in Newcastle upon Tyne.

SummerTyne Americana Festival offers a gumbo mix of American roots music from fiery tex-mex to classic country and blues, the newest southern soul and Americana, as well as some down-home cajun and bluegrass, acts confirmed today are Heritage Blues Orchestra, Mud Morganfield, Patty Griffin, Matthew E. White, Shelby Lynne, Willy Mason, and Larkin Poe.

The festival has also commissioned a special concert called 'Honky Tonk Angels' after the hit song by vintage country queen Kitty Wells, which features current Nashville country star Elizabeth Cook, Jan Howard, and Yolanda Quartey (Phantom Limb) and a host of other special guests paying homage to the classic female stars of country music. With the full line-up to be announced soon.

The FREE outdoor stage bill will include David Wax Museum, Tom Russell, Polly & The Billets Doux, and Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys.

The festival will also offer musical boat trips up the River Tyne, a come-and- sing community gospel choir, film programme and an exclusive exhibition of art work by Jon Langford of The Mekons entitled 'Nashville Radio', children's concerts, and more.
