Metallica (by request), and Iron Maiden will be headlining Sonisphere's 40 years of festivals at Knebworth Park, Hertfordshire next summer from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th July 2014.
This will be the only UK shows by Metallica and Iron Maiden in 2014, and will make history when they appear together on a British bill for the first time.
Both Metallica and Iron Maiden headlined their first ever Knebworth concerts under the Sonisphere banner. Iron Maiden will bring their 'Maiden England' World Tour and Metallica will deliver a 'Metallica By Reques' interactive setlist spanning their entire career, chosen by their fans.
Vocalist Bruce Dickinson commented, "We all grew up in England well aware of the importance of the legendary concerts at Knebworth, and scarily it all seems quite recent! Without being cliched, it really is an honor and privilege to return to play there with the purpose of celebrating some of the finest moments in British rock history from inspirational bands like Pink Floyd, The Who, Zeppelin, The Stones and Genesis.
"This will be the last concert of our ‘Maiden England’ Tour and it is very fitting to end a long and hugely enjoyable tour in our own back yard. We have tweaked the ‘Maiden England’ set list a bit to make it more representative of our whole 80s era and to give the fans something a bit different, especially as this will be the last of our three tours with an historical perspective.
"If you are there on the day it is highly likely that you will hear some of these songs played live for the very last time ever. So on an occasion like this, a celebration and the end of a chapter, you can be sure we will do our utmost to give our fans one hell of a show and go out with all guns blazing.”
The first Sonisphere at Knebworth in 2009 was headlined by Metallica, and Linkin Park, with Metallica closing the festival. Metallica took a year out in 2011 with Alice Cooper, German industrial metallers Rammstein and Iron Maiden headlining in 2010. They returned for the third edition to feature in thrash metal’s Big 4 with Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth joining them, with the other headliners Biffy Clyro and Slipknot.
Tickets are priced at £170 or £205 with camping, plus booking fees. A car parking pass is £18 and a campervan pass is £65.
There is also a deposit scheme available for a first non-refundable payment of £50 to secure a ticket and the balance being due by the 1st March 2014.
The festivals is for all ages, under 16s accompanied by an adult 18+. Children under 5 are not advised but will be admitted. The campsite will opens on Thursday 3rd July at 1pm and will close at midday on Monday 7th July with the arena opening at 10am on Friday 4th July.
There has been no UK Sonisphere since 2012, with two fallow years at Knebworth.
