Standon Calling 2014
Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd August 2014Standon House, Standon, Ware, Hertfordshire, SG11 1PR, England MAP
£119 for an adult/youth weekend pass
This summer Standon Calling will be ‘Lost In Latin America’ in the grounds of their 16th Century Hertfordshire manor house for the whole weekend, from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd August 2014.
Standon Calling is hoping to get festival goers dancing to the Standon samba beat, and offering a chance to ride a llama through the festival, drink tequila at the cantina or share a jug of voodoo juice with a jungle tribesman, play cards with a conquistador, eat mushrooms with a Mayan, chat up an Inca or have a coffee with a capybura.
There will also be the chance to eat latin American and taste everything from churros to chillis in their Caracas street market, enter a Mexican wrestling competition, guide a boat down their Amazonian river, explore an ancient rainforest or experience a luxurious afternoon in their lagoon.
On the Saturday afternoon the Standon Carnivale will beat its way through the festival and some festival goers will be invited to arrive to on site early and take part in flamenco dancing, float building, piñata making and voodoo ritual workshops. Workshop attendees will become our very own high priests and lead the carnival procession, which culminates in the fancy dress competition.
Once the sun sets, the ancient rainforest will come alive with jungle life, the drums will start to beat, fires will be lit and where once stood a humble cowshed, will be an Aztec temple (complete with a nightclub where you can party until 5am). All over the site there will be different themed venues bringing to life the spirit of everything from Machu Picchu to mescal-soaked narcotraficantes.
Early Bird Tickets will go off sale at midnight tonight, Monday 24th February and the £119 Tier 1 Weekend Tickets will go on sale.
An early bird weekend ticket is priced at £99, a child (4 - 12 years old)weekend ticket is priced at £5.00, and infant (0 - 3 years old) is free. All options include camping free. A campervan pass is priced at £50, and a parking space is priced at £10.
There are no acts confirmed yet for 2014, expect a line-up of well known acts, diverse entertainment and DJs, plus numerous stages and the odd unexpected stage appearing from nowhere. The festival boasts a number of bars, one of which is hewn out of an enormous oak tree, secret areas, interactive theatre, swimming pool (with underwater dance area), boutique camping (beach huts, yurts and tipis), kids area, and festival food.
