Booker T. Jones, The Jayhawks, Bettye LaVette, and Steven Seagal Blues Band lead the first acts announced for the 9th SummerTyne Americana Festival, an annual celebration of Americana music taking place from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July 2014 at The Sage, Gateshead, in Newcastle upon Tyne.
SummerTyne Americana Festival offers a gumbo mix of American roots music from fiery tex-mex to classic country and blues, the newest southern soul and Americana, as well as some down-home cajun and bluegrass.
Acts confirmed today are Earl Thomas, Marc Ford, Chuck Prophet & The SummerTyne Strings, John Fullbright, Sarah Jarosz, Cass McCombs, Ethan Johns, Smoke Fairies, Eve Selis, Davina & The Vagabonds, Samantha Crain, Berkley Hart, Zervas and Pepper, Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys, The Carrivick Sisters, and there's also the chance to join the SummerTyne Americana Festival Choir led by Yolanda Quartey (Phantom Limb).
The FREE outdoor stage bill will include Archie Brown Quartet, The Kentucky Cowtippers, Lesley Roley, Tony Bengtsson Band, Shipcote, Paul Handyside, Rosie & The Hips, The Magnolia Sisters, Big Joe Louis & His Blues Kings, Otis Gibbs, The Hot Seats, The Snakes, Lowri Evans, Hannah Rickard, Davina & The Vagabonds, I Draw Slow, Danny and the Champions Of The World, Martin Stephenson & Jim Hornsby, The Buffalo Skinners, Dan Owen, and Fickle Lilly.
The festival will also offer a, film programme, talks & exhibitions, free showcase event in conjunction with the AMA-UK organisation, family concerts and free family activities, street food, vintage cars and much more!
All events take place inside or outside Sage Gateshead, on the banks of the Tyne. Sage Gateshead is very accessible for travel and has excellent disabled access.
