This year at Glastonbury Festival two Township DJ's from Cape Town, South Africa will be given the opportunity to perform showcases in partnership with Bridges For Music. Thibo Tazz, an urban deep and contemporary house DJ, and DJ Fosta, will play the dance village area of the Festival called Silver Hayes.
Helping the DJs make the trip is British Council Connect ZA an arts initiative that aims to build cultural connections between young people aged 18-35 in the UK and South Africa, and The Department of Arts and Culture of South Africa. Pioneer DJ have also come on board providing funding in support of the project.
Bridges For Music has set up workshops in South African townships with globally famous DJs like Richie Hawtin, Skrillex and Luciano, events which were welcomed by the local communities.
The partnership with Glastonbury, will enable artists such as Thibo Tazz & DJ Fosta to be opened up to a new wave of possibilities. The trip will have a strong educational / side of the trip will be completed with a special session with Pioneer DJ sounds at their premises in London.
Thibo Tazz said he is not "usually into festivals" but he understands how important they are for the global music scene. "The first thing that caught my attention is that tickets sell out in the first hour, so it must be good".
"This project fits perfectly with our British Council Connect ZA project, it is about creating opportunity and also ensuring that talent gets an opportunity on stages that are about the quality of the music, and not where the artists come from. Glastonbury is the best festival around, these artists will add to the quality of the event and hopefully encourage more young people in the UK to explore exciting contemporary South African creativity." added Tom Porter, the Head of Arts, South Africa.
Tickets have sold out for this year's Festival which happens over five full days from Wednesday 25th until Sunday 29th June 2014 across over a 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset .
Festival organiser Michael Eavis has issued a warning to make Festival goers aware there a scum bags out there who will try and sell fake Glastonbury tickets to innocent potential purchasers. Tickets have sold out, there is no way now to purchase general access tickets.
The farmer said, "Photos on tickets, which we introduced ten years ago, should eliminate this to a very large extent. If you are offered a ticket it is unlikely to give you access to the Festival. The BBC will be covering even more of the Festival this year so please be content with the TV for now. Hopefully there will be many more years ahead when your chances of buying a ticket will increase. Thank you for supporting our Festival."
