Bestival happening at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight, from Thursday 10th until Sunday 13th September 2015 is trying to enter the record books again this year, this time with the largest number of buskers in one place.
Last year Bestival broke the record for the world's biggest ever disco ball, this year, they attempt to break yet another Guinness World Record, enlisting the help of CoCo and the Butterfields to assemble over the current record of four hundred buskers in the main arena, for a mass rendition of 'The Beatles' All You Need Is Love'.
Would-be record breakers are invited to bring any instrument they like, and help create a world record breaking biggest busk ever. All they need to do is sign-up using the form on the official website (here) and say what instrument they be playing.
Bestival also recently confirmed that they will host another new attraction this year - Carnivale situated in the Wishing Tree Field. Featuring a pirate ship stage with a cast of oddball performers and dancers expect sea shanties, morning shakedowns and eye-catching exploits, Commedia Dell’Arte inspired pirates, acrobatic monkeys, and a Carnival Day Parade and Night Parades. Plus, there’s a workshop tent offering carnival arts, costume making, face painting, dance and musical workshops. There will also be a History of Carnival exhibition showing film footage of carnivals from around the world and discover the history of the costumes on display.
A collaboration across several art forms, Carnivale will host Spandy Andy, Sink the Pink, Mr Wilson's Second Liners, Mariachi El Pinche Grin Go, Shademakers, Area 51, Cirque Bijou, Emergency Exit Arts, Batala Portsmouth, Kinetika Bloco, Mandinga Arts, Preston Carnival, Brouhaha, New Carnival Company, VIP Puppets, Artemis, Quture, CTD Dance Company, Rainbow Connections, Utopia Mas, The Love Float (a collaboration between Shademakers and the IOW Police Volunteer Cadet Force) and The Parlour Make Up, and Rob da Bank.
Festival organiser Rob da Bank said, "We all know Besti-goers love a good party and any excuse to dress up, so gradually over the years we’ve been building our carnival activity up, till this year things have just gone off the scale with a fantastic Arts Council grant enabling us to put on our biggest carnival ever, and to have a mega pirate ship base for everything carnival to operate from. Combine that with our annual Saturday afternoon parade, and brand new illuminated night parades, soundtracked by yours truly, then things are going to go well and truly crazy for carnival this year."
Missy Elliott, Underworld, Duran Duran, and the Chemical Brothers top a bill that includes The Jacksons, Tame Impala, Jungle, Jurassic 5, a UK exclusive from Flying Lotus, Gorgon City, Little Dragon, Roisin Murphy, Duke Dumont, Kate Tempest, Jamie XX, Boy Better Know, Todd Terje, Action Bronson, Future Islands, Level 42, Young Fathers, Flight Facilities, Rae Morris, Jungle Brothers, The Cuban Brothers, Pond, Sleaford Mods, Fat White Family, Skrillex, Mark Ronson (DJ set), Annie Mac, Seth Troxler, Dub Pistols, Wiley, Skepta, Roni Size Reprazent, Drenge, Jaguar Skills, DJ Yoda, and more.
