DF Concerts & Events, organisers of T in the Park, who last year had to deal with nesting ospreys now face another wildlife threat after evidence of beavers was found on the music festival site.
Animal experts have identified that a fallen tree at Strathallan Castle, Perthshire, was felled by the dam making creatures. However unlike the ospreys that are a protected species, organisers are free to exterminate the beavers, as their natural instincts to build means their dam building could cause flooding at the site at Strathallan Castle, Perthshire.
Environment Ministers are considering whether to officially reintroduce beavers to the area, and make them a protected species. Naturalist Jim Crumley told The Scottish Sun, (here), "Even if they get protected status it still should be fine because if one is causing a problem, like the animal in Pitlochry, then SNH can trap it and take it to another area. The only major problem would be if the beavers started gnawing down a stage support."
After last year's festival experts have checked on the Strathallan Estate’s ospreys which were at the centre of much of the opposition to T in the Park and have been given the all clear and are fine and behaving normally following the end of the festival. Festival director Geoff Ellis said of that news, "The site’s very own high-flying birds, a family of four osprey, have been undisturbed by the festival and there has been no change in their behaviour during the event."
DF Concerts have not commented on the arrival of beaver.
The festival celebrates it's 23rd edition this year, returning to Strathallan Castle in Perthshire over full three days from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th July 2016. Much of the line-up is still underwraps, Friday's headliners have been announced as The Stone Roses, with Disclosure, The 1975, and Courteeners the only other acts on the bill so far.
A Thursday weekend with camping ticket is priced at £205, a Friday weekend with camping ticket is priced at £194, and a Friday Weekend (No Camping)ticket is priced at £184.
