Following complaints by local group Friends of Finsbury Park and a review by Haringey Council, rap and grime event Wireless Festival will be permitted to remain at Finsbury Park in London, as long as it's like a middle-aged mothers garden party, reports the BBC (here).
The Friends of Finsbury Park group had complained about noise levels, drug taking and anti-social behaviour, and following a review the Council have amended the licence conditions. These now include that "performers do not sing or play any vulgar, obscene or banned songs or carry out indecent acts or make any vulgar gestures, actions or remarks during the performance" and that performers do "not offend the general public, e.g., attire which expose the groin, private parts, buttock or female breast(s)".
The last day of the festival now has to finish at 9.30pm, and there's also new - take that as meaning 'lower' - sound levels and extra sound monitoring.
The barrister for organisers Live Nation, Philip Kolvin QC, told the hearing that "impacts are mostly contained and limited in duration" with Live Nation "committed" to the "possibility of improving year-on-year".
"Wireless is a celebration of grime music. It is a music genre that emerged from London; it is London music," he said, and noted that Wireless Festival "reflected and celebrated" Haringey's "young and ethnically diverse" character as a borough.
The date and details for next year's Wireless Festival haven't yet been announced.
